Can't remember any serious forest fires in CT. Way back when I was Mac's age some of the tobacco barns near our place caught fire; half of the neighborhood turned out to watch. Interesting way to kill an afternoon.
The last fire I saw was back in 2000, on Election Day, when my building burned. Smoking in bed is a no-no, as the lady who did so found out. Anyway, the fire department kicked everybody out of my half of the building for a week, which wasn't bad, actually; the Red Cross put me up in the Hartford Ramada, conveniently near the Civic Center and McDonald's, so I spent the next seven days watching election news and chowing down on Big Macs.
