Other than recognizing his name and face, I wasn't really familiar with him at all. But I don't think that's reason enough to not pay my respects to a man who made such a difference in the stand-up world, and made many, many, MANY people laugh.

RIP Carlin

I heard about the news last night, but the reality of the situation didn't really sink in until now.

I keep thinking back to one of my happiest memories in which me and mother went to see his live show at the National Arts Center in Ottawa back in 2002, and let me tell you there was not a single member of the audience which wasn't laughing his or her head off during his entire hour and a half set.

Truly Carlin was the living embodiment of counter-culture and he was taken from us much too soon.

Like Lynnie, I could recognize the man and the name, but was never really familiar with his comedy routines. However, I still think it's incredibly unfortunate that he had to pass so soon. R.I.P. George Carlin.

These have been among the worst two weeks in the history of media/entertainment deaths. First Tim Russert, then Stan Winston, and now George Carlin.

The latter two I just missed out on the opportunity to see/meet in person. Stan was at Comic-con last year signing autographs, and George was at a Paley Institute panel last month that was sold out.

I've heard his name mentioned many times, but never heard any of his material. I'm sure he was good at what he did though. He'll be missed.

Definitely recommend checking up his material Blue bottle. What made him so amazing was his way of mixing humor with every day things, his observations and understanding of human language and every day things made him not only hilarious to watch but also educational. I learned a great deal of things from him.

Its true he was VERY crude, he has quite a dirty mouth and in truth that's one of the biggest points about him: his tendency to go against the rules and talk about anything no matter how taboo or racy. I have two of his books "Napalm and silly putty" and "When will Jesus bring the pork chops?"

Both are funny as Hell and I definitely recommend checking out at least one of his DVDs. You'll learn and laugh a lot. Even my love for the guy set aside, he really is regarded as one of the legends of comedians. Least I think so anyway and its always a tragedy when a legend leaves us.

He's.....He's really gone.

The greatest Comedian to ever live.

I always thought the reason he is funny, he told it like it is.

And to think, he was also the narrator for a lot of the Thomas the Tank Engine stories. Rest in Peace, sir.
