The Worst Voice Acting You've Ever Heard

I'm wondering what some of the worst voice-acting any of you have ever heard is, either in video games or television shows, or any other motives. Here's one of the ones that really horrifies me, especially due to the failure to accurately portray the personality of the characters and....just how pathetic the skills of the voice actors are. I present to you Chaos Wars:

Yep that's pretty bottom of the barrel voice acting right there.

It almost makes me take back all of the nasty things I've said about such awful voice acting from games like

Mega Man 8

Link: The Faces of Evil

Castle Shikigami 2

and

Evil Zone

And yeah, I moved this thread out of spam as it is very conservation worthy and not really spammish at all.

Wow....did they find Elmer Fudd somehow and have him do Dr. Lights' voice for some reason? And while I know Mega Man is sorta supposed to be child-like, did they really need him to sound like he's about to go to kindergarten?

I uncharacteristically forgive the CDi Zelda games for the amount of entertainment they've given me in the form of Youtube Poops.

That was....well....that dialogue was bizarrely awkward...

You know....I'm really not sure WHAT to think of that. I didn't think the voice acting was horrendous until we got to the third fight. That game simply sounded like he was so utterly pleased and courteous about killing you in that cutscene.

That said, here's a totally different point: I know want to play this game, if just because it's look intrigued me. For a fighting game, the style seemed AWFULLY cinematic, and I'm wondering how well it actually controls.

Heh, I don't know. I tend to worry over whether or not a lot of what I put up would count as spam.

I always loved how utterly banal everything Richter and Dracula said to each other in that conversation was. You could tell from the beginning that Dracula simply didn't care.

Despite the shaky voice acting, Evil Zone is one of the hidden gems of the original Play Station line up.

It's very easy to pick up and play because like any Super Smash Brothers game, despite the fact that every character has their own move set, every move is pulled off using the same controler motions.

And it has one of the best single player campaigns in any fighting game because as you've just seen in the video the story is set up an interactive anime series, complete with episode titles and previews of "next weeks" episode.

And now for something comepletely different...

Here's Shenmue's own Ryo and his quest to find some "sailors"

Now this is a topic that I can sink my teeth into! Taranchula beat me to the CD-I stuff (but I love the poops that it has bread!). Off the top of my head I can name Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (Tails voice acting was terrible if memory serves) and Castlevania64 (Courage, don't leave me!). I'm sure I'll remember more later.:D

Ridureyu 06-12-2008 09:26 AM

Do you know any places where sailors hang out?

One Radical Dude 06-12-2008 12:22 PM

Has anyone heard the Malaysian English dub of Dragonball Z? Ouch. 8D I give them effort for trying to speak English in the dub, but it was an awful dub. You can see clips off of YouTube.

Nice. I'll have to track down a copy and check it out.

It wasn't so much the voice acting that bugged me as it was the terrible dialogue. I like the fact that Ryo's main way of finding his father's killer was to ask about whether or not someone had seen a sailor with a tattoo. That being said, though, Ryo had been oddly cool and unworried about avenging his father.

Case in point...

Speaking of Sonic Adventure 2, it quite possibly had some of the cheesiest song lyrics ever written. Here are a few examples:

EGGMAN
Pumpkin Hill

I'll have to check it out. While we're on the subject, here's the opening to Dragon Ball Z in Canada. You can tell the singers really, REALLY don't care about what they're saying.

As for a new dub I need to show you, behold the terror that is Animal Soccer World:

Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Part Four

I'm not sure what's worse: the fact that there are three voice actors tops, the horrible rip off of Disney animation, the looping background music, or the fact that this is somehow a GAME FOR THE PS2.

Medikor 06-12-2008 03:25 PM

One thing I like to point out to Japanese purists when they're bashing good English dubs (just because they are dubbed in English::)) is the Japanese dub of Beast Wars/Beasties. The acting may be fine (I can't tell since I don't speak the language) but how they changed some of the characters. Megatron went from being the smooth, calculating and charismatic mastermind to a coward that screamed like a school girl at the drop of a hat.

Wow what a coincidence, I was just on my way here to post about the awfulness that was Animal Soccer World, but you've beat me to it.

So here some of the tragic history of Animal Soccer World:

This movie (for lack of a better term) was made by Dingo Pictures, one of those fly by night overseas animation studios whose major stock in trade is doing cheap knock offs of popular Disney animated movies. (And some from Fox/Dream works too.)

Now how did it come to the PS2 you ask? Well the people responsible for that were a fly by night British video game publisher called Phoenix Games, who for some reason bought the rights to some of Dingo's movies and put them on a PS2 DVD along with some half assed puzzle/painting games (I guess to justify it being called a game.) And unloaded them on the game playing public.

Now the original films were recorded in an another language (German I believe) so therefore Phoenix had to dub the game for the English audience and most likely due to to the lack of funds Phoenix most likely had, we get the wonderful voice acting we hear in those videos.

XD I have the Pumpkin Hill song on my computer =3 That songs hilarious! But seriously, Live and Learn, Shadows Theme and the first biolizard theme are awesome... And Shadow's voice is beautiful in that game compared to his replacement. Ahhh... Adventure 2... Back when Shadow was cool *sigh*

I just have two words to say about this....

Good Gravy!

Yes, who better to sing the American national anthem then cartoon/video game characters created in Japan or Italy. (With the exception of TMNT. natch.) :P

i remember that. not fun times.

while on 4kids, i might say some (if not all) of the voice acting on their one piece dub. why they made sanji sound like a chain smoker and then change his ciggarette into a lolipop ill never know.

Pawbah 06-14-2008 05:51 PM

That National anthem... was pretty bad.

I think it was so funny that it was redubbed though. I mean, it was such a terrible dub that a different company got rights to it and redubbed it.... I haven't seen the new dub so I can't say anything for it, but I'm sure it's better, I can't see how it could be worse.

It's an improvement, from what I've seen. They kept the original music (the openings are translated; no more 'Ya-yo ya-yo' mumbo jumbo), instead of replacing it with new junk.

Medikor 06-16-2008 08:30 AM

I finally remembered about the voice acting in Baten Kaitos! As good a game as it was, you would think that the voice acting would be up to par (Xella is particularly grating). It's a shame that it didn't have the effort put into it like Tales of Symphonia which came out just before it and had excellent acting.

To be honest with you, I think FUNimation's version of the GT opening is more unbearable. Step into the Grand Tour. I'll give FUNi some praise: they've certain improved a lot. I think FMA is the best show I've seen them dub. I still am disappointed with the way they handed DBZ (though they did pretty good with the original DB), and I thought they shouldn't have redubbed the first three movies (the original English dubs [dubbed with the Ocean Group VAs] of those movies were the best I've seen from any DB/Z/GT episode or movie dubbed in English). It deserved to be treated better. I think they are doing a better job with One Piece, though, than 4Kids did.

Okay...Wulin Warriors opening.

The only reason they redubbed it is because the Ocean dub was gone already from the episodes and it would make no sense to bring the Ocean dub of the Cell and Buu sagas after so many people had gotten use to the new Funimation voice actors they have now.

I already knew they were going to redub the Saiyan and Freiza sagas from the Ocean dub, so it stands to reason they would redub the first 3 movies. Though I admit, I felt they handled the first 3 movies perfectly which is why I went the extra mile to pick up the rare and discontinued ocean dub 3 movies.

I don't blame Funimation for how they handled DBZ, this kind of thing happens when you pick up a series after another company (Saban) mucks it up. The EXACT same problem happened with Sailor Moon after Dic dropped it and ADV tried to pick up the slack. Its a hard and very troublesome process.

As for the GT opening, I hated it originally at first but truth be told, it grew on me. I kind of liked it and I liked it better knowing it was a contest song and I love the notion of fans actually contributing to DB in a more instrumental manner. But that's just me. As for bad voice acting, that's hard to say.

I've loved nearly all I've heard, the only REALLY bad one I would honestly say is the worst i've ever seen is in the anime Zenki. Its about a demon warrior who gets confined to a chibi/midget form when he's not at full power and though I still like the show a lot, I REALLY can't stand his annoying voice in midget form.

What can I say, Capcom sure loves to have it's protagonists scream ridiculously in anguish over the body of their fallen lovers.

I freaking love that clip of MMX4! X4 was where the series peaked (in my opinion) and had great music, animation and action. What could make all that even better? Why, a heaping slice of cheesy voice acting.;) I've always been partial to Double's "You're going to get hurt, X!"8D

There have been people who hate the current Pokemon USA voice cast for the series and want the 4K!DS cast back. I've gotten used to them personally, and they have done a respectible job.
