Anyways, is there still going to be a DVD with a few random eps or is this in lieu?

No other releases were mentioned, so I guess this would mark the very first Foster's DVD release. :)

Very good to hear, a shame they couldn't get it out for Christmas, that would have made for a much better sale point. But it's a great step forward and I'm so happy to know i can finally own the show on DVD for once.

The character commentaries is definitely the most interesting aspect about the special features. Rarely any current seasonal DVDs have given out any worth wild special features, so this is a very nice and most welcomed surprise.

I honestly though am not sure how I feel about the cover. It's not bad, but it's nothing "impressive" either if you ask me.

BlooCheese

AT LAST! YES! I AM SO TOTALLY GOING TO BUY IT!
Good point, Mr. Marshmallow. It would've made a really good Christmas present, but I'm just glad they're actually being produced.

Yay, a Foster's DVD set! Yet another thing for me to add on my wishlist.

The extras look pretty promising (especially the commentaries), but I'm more interested in the content. Still, it's nice to see the DVD set will have extra things, and that the episodes are being released in a season set instead of separate DVDs.

To sum up my rambling, I'm excited about the release, and I can't wait to February (well, maybe I can, but that's not the point)!

There are no words with which I can express how stoked I am to hear commentaries by the characters. That is, officially, the greatest idea ever. I also really really hope that "never-before-seen footage" involves us getting to see the actors doing their jobs.

And Craig is/was here! It's my lucky day!

Invader Bloo
10-07-2006, 01:50 PM
The "Ren & Stimpy" DVDs did it first. Cool idea though.

taranchula

The "Ren & Stimpy" DVDs did it first. Cool idea though.

The King of The Hill DVD's did it too for the first couple of season sets, and even though it's not animation, the movie "This is Spinal Tap" had a hilarious
in-character commentary track.

I think the Foster's commentraies will work due to the strong cast, after all Tom Kenny, Phil Lamarr, Grey DeLislie, Tom Kane, Tara Strong and Candi Milo are Voice over/comedy ventrans so they certainly know how to improv, and once Keith Furguson gets into the character of Bloo he can even just read out of a phone book and still make it sound funny*, and of course Sean Maquette being the other corner stone of this program has proven time and time again he can bring the funny.

(*Now that I think about it, I would pay good money to see 22 minuets of Bloo reading names out of a telephone book.)

I'm hoping for the character commentaries to last into the sets for the other DVDs... and, of course(I promise I won't freak out about it again, but...), I also really hope it won't be a "Foster's Five"-exclusive affair, and that Frankie, Madame Foster, Mr. Herriman will get involved.

Yes, yes, YES. Somebody pinch me.

Wow,that is good news. Does it come with other languages? I would love to hear Wilt speak french.
Well, the only other CN Original released as of now, Samurai Jack, did have extra French and Spanish tracks, so it's a huge possibility.

Hey, I wonder if the "never-before-seen footage" will include the original Adoptcalypse Now credits. Oh, and the character commentary and Craig McCracken designing the final cover = greatness.

Medikor
10-08-2006, 05:44 AM
I'm thinking that the characters that commentate are based on the episodes. So if it's a Frankie-centric episode, Frankie will get to give her fair share of opinions.:D Just imagine what she would have to say about World Wide Wabbit!8D

Yeah, it's most likely going to be released in North America, so if you really want it, you need to have a region-free DVD player or get your PC set up to watch DVDs from any region on your PC's DVD drive.

Invader Bloo

I found out 4 awesome things.

Foster's DVD in February.
It has character commentaries, which will almost have no fourth wall anymore (it's this broken).
Craig is on the forum (which I did not ever know.)
He's designing a box art other than that one which already looks awesome, so what to expect from the new one?
But. There is a sad thing.

Belgium is 7291 km away from USA. And Belgium does never get merchandising.
So it's time to cry now. :'(

Cassini90125
10-09-2006, 07:26 AM
Don't cry. You might be able to work out something with someone you know in the USA to send them to you. Shipping costs might be expensive but it could be done. :)

Right, I'm sure Craig wants DVD sets to become available to as many locations as possible. However, he doesn't have as much control over releases as Cartoon Network or Warner Bros.

I hope season 2 comes shortly after this one comes out, maybe a month or two.

Sounds good, however, that's more likely to be unrealistic, and not necessarily a good business move. :macwor: It takes time to come up with decent releases (at least, give it 4-6 months after the first release), and plus the sales factor is another thing (which I'm sure will do fine to get another release).

Medikor
10-15-2006, 07:21 AM
Exactly. A six month gap between releases sounds about right. The Avatar dvd's have a three month gap between releases (but those only have four episodes per dvd) and other season dvd sets are yearly releases. Either way, I don't think we'll have to wait too long for season two.

Klown

Kzinistzerg
10-15-2006, 03:37 PM

10-18-2006, 07:04 PM
Getting back on topic here, we already know about the commentaries, but I wonder what kind of behind the scenes features they'll have on the DVD? I for one hope they do a feature on the music of Foster's, since the show has such an awesome soundtrack that always perfectly fits the mood and helps to sell a lot of the scenes in the series, and it would be great to hear from the likes of James (Venable) and Jennifer (Kes Remington) the series' composers about what it's like to compose such varied and memorable music and stuff like that.

Medikor
10-19-2006, 06:52 AM

To be honest, I don't think we'll be getting much in the way of authentic behind-the-scenes material. One or two short featurettes is what I'm thinking. Children are the core demographic, so don't be surprised if it's crammed with lots of vapid interactive games.

But at least the character commentaries will be something that can appeal to both children and us hardcore fans. :bloogrin

Oh of course, I wasn't expecting them to cram as much behind the scenes stuff as possible onto one set, mainly for the reasons you stated above. I was thinking like maybe one or two features per season set, that ought to do it.

Invader Zim had the creator' commentaries, but also in the extras they did show some pieces to do with music, the animation process, audio recording; and Zim was aimed at 'kids' too. I use the term loosely since most of the fans were teenagers and adults.

Does anyone have any ideas how the DVD will present the shorts during the end credits? Because I've seen on other season DVDs that the credits aren't always included for every episode.

-Marty :goo:

Voxxyn
11-21-2006, 02:00 PM
Ideally, the DVD would have a separate "chapter select" section with all the credits shorts, which you can choose to play either individually or all at the same time from start to finish. And the best part would be that with the black credits screen removed, you'd see the shorts at full resolution and take up the entire screen.

But knowing Cartoon Network, they'll probably exclude them completely just to tick us off.

Update on Cover Art and Release Date
(http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=6645)
Well, we have a few changes. The cover art is only slightly changed, and the DVD release date has been bumped to a month later (March 7, instead of February 7).

I LOVE the cover layout, and hope that it becomes the theme for the later season set releases. But I think the picture frames should include characters and events that were pivotal for the respective season. Season 1 would have the Scribbles, Berry, "Funny Bunny" Herriman and Red; Season 2 would have Cheese, Bendy, sugar-crazed Mac and Frankie in either of her FMD dresses; and so on.

Of course, this means Goofball would most likely grace the Season 3 cover... :(

As a UK resident, I hear you all on the whole Region 1 superiority issue, though to be fair, it's hardly just Cartoon Network that does it; frankly, I find the whole DVD region encoding business to be a massive slap in the face to overseas consumers and, indeed, the very notion of free trade. :frankiemad: I mean, I do have a multi-region player at home, and there are still ways that I will be able to import it, but it's still a royal pain in the backside to have to go through all that rigmarole for a disc I'll only be able to use with one of my players at home, when I know that I really ought to be able to just go to a shop and buy it, no hassle.

Still, Foster's on DVD and all that...I'm mostly just looking forward to having ultra-high quality copies of the episodes that I can watch on my TV instead of my computer, without CN banners or annoying yammering over the end credits. The extras should be nice too, though; I hope we'll see at least some behind-the-scenes stuff from Craig and co.

PS. By the way, Sparky - had you considered overhauling your Season One screengrabs section when the DVD comes out? Don't get me wrong - I'm certainly not requesting you do this, or even suggesting that you should feel you need to; it would be a lot of unnecessary work on your part, and the screengrabs you've got are great as they are, and are a fantastic resource for Foster's fans. It just struck me that DVD-standard fidelity (minus on-screen logos and banners), combined with the superior software on your new computer, would make for some very high-quality screengrabs, so I was just wondering if you'd thought about the idea. :)

Was, anyway. It may still be #1 to us, but that doesn't mean it's still the #1 highest rated program on Cartoon Network. Ben 10 is a huge show for the network, also. Either way, I don't agree with it getting a release ahead of Foster's.

Mr. Marshmallow
02-07-2007, 06:46 PM
I think it might have to go with Ben 10 stemming a much broader audience then Foster's does. If NBC's "Heroes" has taught me anything, is that science fiction, super heroes, and all around freaky action packed weird crap is very popular.

Especially now more then ever. Ben 10 appeals to action and sci fi fans, with a very original plot (Foster's as well) and being of the few actually action based cartoon shows for kids out there that isn't already an anime or something.

I love Ben 10, I also love Foster's, but I get different things out of each series so it's hard to judge the popularity of the public. I think from a financial point this is probably wiser because of the more general kid fan factor for DVD sales.

I'm not happier that Foster's is delayed anymore then you guys are, but I also admit that I can kind of see why they would choose to go this route.

First I've heard of it. I'd guess that the best time to try to catch it would be between segments of the show.

I just got the DVD from target and it was only 14.99 there. I havent watched any of it yet cause i gotta go to work but i cant wait.:D

The art work on the box is from Store Wars, its pretty cute. Also on the inside flyer on the back is a code for a new buddy for BFAHP. But the buddy is not that sweet.

I can't really afford to get it RIGHT NOW, well I can it's just I need to start saving my money because I got an anime convention to go to on March 23rd and that's gonna take a big chunk of money from me.

Plus, I don't get paid till Thursday so I'll probably go to Best Buy and pick it up on my way home from work or something.

The code is now posted on my BFAHP site (http://www.fosters-home.com/houseparty/codes2.htm), so nobody ask for it here. :P

I was lucky to find a copy of the DVD - I had a feeling it wasn't going to be easy to find (and I'm in a big city!). Best Buy didn't have it, Suncoast didn't have it, so I called Fry's. They had ONE so I had them set it aside for me.

Anyways I'm going to start looking at it in a bit, and I'll probably make up a page for it for the site, detailing the cool stuff.

A few questions before I buy the DVD...

1. Does it have the Cartoon Network logo on episodes?
2. Is it a boxed set or a normal 2-Disc DVD case?
3. What are the bonus scenes like?
Thanks! :bloosmirk:

See this is why I'm going to make a detailed "what's in the set" page.

1. No
2. A 2-disc case. The kind with the little "swinging" thingie in the middle
3. Sorry, haven't gotten that far yet :P

Lol when you go into "Setup" at least on Disc 1, you get a black screen and you hear all these...bathroom noises for a while before you finally see the bathroom, with all the language options.

edit: Eh, I think its just my laptop. It's doing that with all the other features, giving me a black screen with only the sound for about 30 seconds before I get the visual.

What episodes in what order are on it?

I haven't looked at the eps yet, but its supposed to be the Season One set, so I assume they are all the season one eps, in order. I do know the "House Of Bloo's" eps are separate, not all together in the movie they show on CN.

edit: Looks like the eps actually aren't in order.

GENERALLY teenagers...with a few *cough, cough, AHEM* exceptions, lol!

And no, I'm not the only one over 21 who's crazy over the Wilt-Man; there's a few female staff members I work with who are like, total Wilt groupies besides me-one even says she'd leave her boyfriend if she could be with Wilt!

I absolutely CANNOT find this DVD ANYWHERE, though! I've tried Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, Blockbuster and Hollywood Video, and none have it, not even on their lists of new releases that are due to be sent to them. I didn't get a chance to gry Target yet, but I have a feeling that if they have had it in, it's sold out already. I hate to have to order it off the internet and then wait forever for it to get here, but it looks like that's the only way to get the thing around here.

I was actually hoping for the commentary to be on all of the episodes, though. I just hope that they do the commentary on Frankie My Dear. I would love to hear Frankie talking about the dresses she wore, and the fan's reaction to them! :-*

I am assuming that Hastings is a chain dept. store, right? If so, we don't have 'em, unfortunately. Target is the only place I haven't had time to try yet, that even sells DVD's, anyway. If they don't have it, I will have to order it online and wait until I'm, like, 50, to get it!

They didn't have it at my Wal-Mart store, either. Some releases get the DVDs later than others, from what I've learned. If you cannot get it online or want to get it locally, keep checking back with your nearest retailers.

Okay, I'm sorry for posting back-to-back, but there's something I want to address. SynDuo told me that he went through many sets, claiming that he couldn't view the second disc on any of his DVD players at all. Has anyone else faced this problem? If so, please mention it.

Aww... And here I was hoping the trouble of finding one was because they were selling out due to high demand. 8D
I shall try again in a week I guess. If I can wait that long...

No, unfortunately I was told by both Best Buy and Suncoast that (and this was the same deal as with the GBA game) that it might be released, but the stores won't get them automatically because of projected low demand. You have to special-order it.

Oh, and the "low demand" thing kinda bites. I hope this doesn't affect its chances of being released in Region 2. :(

Anyhow, thanks for providing that link, Sparky, since I imagine it'll be a while before I get to experience it for myself. I particularly love the packaging art. And the Gallery of Friends is also pretty interesting, for all the additional background information it provides about the minor characters.

I'm not surprised by the "low demand"/can't-find-it-anywhere dilemma. Foster's, despite reportedly being one of the highest-rated originals on CN, is unfortunately not popular or well-known in the mainstream on the same level as SpongeBob or Fairly OddParents or Avatar(I've read repeatedly that Nickelodeon almost always crushes CN in the ratings). I'm crossing my fingers that the local Borders will have it, since they have a far more expansive and varied catalog of DVDs.

But anyway... I checked the DVD page, and I must say it looks GREAT. :D I really want to listen to the Store Wars commentary track. This DVD and the upcoming Frankie comic-book will definitely keep me happy until whenever Season 5 is ready to debut.
