My grandma hasn't been doing well for a few years now. Ten-twelve years ago she had cancer. After chemo and radiation, the cancer was gone but they did permanent damage to her immune system. She's suffered from all sorts of infections since then. And in the last two or three years she's come down with dementia, which is affecting her physical health as well since she doesn't take care of herself. She no longer remembers me or my brother or sister. She was recently admitted to a nursing home because my aunt just couldn't handle it anymore taking care of her. Then we found out a few months ago that she's no longer producing new blood cells. What blood she has now is all she's going to have for the rest of her life. It's swiftly becoming "stale", and she's getting sicker and sicker. Now she's on Hospice. The doctor said he expects her to leave us sometime in the next few months.
