Either money fear is causing rash talk or they're logically going through expenditure to see where savings can be made which doesn't mean anything bad. I recently pointed out to my housemate we could theoritically survive on cheap bread and vitamin pills to dramatically cut the technically unnecessary food spending. I have no intention of doing such a thing unless there is no other option and there are always other options. It'll be ok.
