Thank you so much! Yes, they have seen the recording studio, and I play them every chance I get. I have 12 guitars, and the collection is worth a fortune. The two Les Pauls combined value is worth more than a 2008 Corvette convertable. I purchased many of these fine instruments when they were still affordable. By the way, I had the honor and privledge to meet Les Paul himself when I was 15. He was in his 70's then. He is 93, and HE STILL PLAYS! Bless him!

And thank you again for the wonderful Frankie pic. It hangs in the guest room with some of my other cels.

As for the instruments, I'm curious as to how you normally display the collection, or do you keep them locked away most of the time?

I keep them in their cases, and I have a walk in closet in the guestroom that can hold ALL of them. I string them when I am supposed to (every three months, or it depends on how often they get played on). There are guitar lockers, and I was looking into this - but the prices are well...better to just keep them cased.

They're beautiful, Duck! They look identical too, except for the color. Are they just made from different woods? I really like the color of the '58 Cherry. Glad to hear the treasures aren't being locked away and forgotten about like so many others do with their treasures. Keep playing!

Thanks. Most Gibsons are constructed with mapletop for the body with either walnut or cherry. The fingerboards are either ebony, or rosewood. There are exotic woods such as Korina ('58 Flying V's) The Les Paul was introduced in 1952 as a goldtop until 1957. In 1958, Gibson wanted to improve sales from '58 thru '60. The cherry sunburst was the next wave. These guitars, brand new in the music store - cost $286 (with case). Hard to believe they are now worth anywhere from $50K to $250K. They have become the "stratovarius" of electric guitars.
