Our School Is Under "Lockdown"!
About an hour ago, we were told not to let any students out of the rooms, or to be in the halls, or to be in front of a window. The school was ordered under lockdown; apparently there is a hostage situation in the community nearby. I don't know any other details besides that. The Principal just announced that they were cancelling all after-school programs, but apparently they are going to let the bus students go home. I don't know about the ones who walk to and from school, or whose parents pick them up in the afternoons. I was fortunate that at about the time the lockdown was announced, the homeroom teacher whose kids were in my Art room came and got them, so at least I don't have a classroom full of anxious kids to deal with. I don't know if they're gonna let the teachers leave school or not, either, so there's no telling how long I could have to stay here.

Oh gosh, I hate when my school goes into "lockdown" mode. When I was still in middle school, there was a terrorist threat on my school on the internet, and everyone was so scared. I was stuck in the cafeteria with a bunch of idiots I hope everything is okay over there, and that you can go home. Safely, too.

Well, I'm home, and the situation is over. I guess I'll have to watch the evening news to get the details, but from what I can gather, some guy entered an apartment on a street behind our school with a high-powered rifle and took a 17-year-old girl hostage for awhile. I guess this was some sort of break-up scene and he couldn't deal with it. I've been told that the Guys in White Suits and Padded Trucks came and got him, though whether or not anyone got hurt, or how they managed to get to him, I don't know. All I DO know is that there've been a LOT of bizarre kidnappings and hostage-takings around here lately-must be something in the water, I guess.

Well, I'm glad things appear to be calm right now. The recent kidnappings and hostage situations -- not what we want to hear, and I hope those stop in the near future.
