I bought the DVD some time ago but didn't get around to watching it until early this morning. Much like
The Core, the "science" behind the plot is utterly preposterous, to the point where I have to wonder if anyone in the writer's guild has even
heard of science, let alone taken a course in it. The characters were passably likable, albeit not by much, and there wasn't all that much of a plot beyond everybody trying to get to a safe area while the Earth falls apart around them. Mostly the movie was an excuse to show off a lot of explosive special effects, which it did
very well; I imagine that it must have been beyond spectacular on the big screen, and they were pretty dang impressive on my computer monitor as well. Again, not much on plot or characters but it's full of fire and action, and a pretty enjoyable way to spend 2-1/2 hours.
