Yep, I did. I have to buy 100% of my students' art supplies for the entire year, for TWO separate schools, since the school district has no budget for the arts, even though both state law and the Federal "No Child Left Behind Act" require that the schools offer Visual Art classes in grades K-12, taught by a "highly qualified" Art instructor("highly qualified" means that you have a degree in Art, are state certified to teach Art, and passed the National exam, or "Praxis", in Art). The kids hate the cheaper knock-offs of big name brand Art stuff like Crayola and Pentech, which ARE better, but I can only afford the cheaper stuff, given that I have to buy supplies for over 400 kids. I made this fan art pic partly to show them just what could be done with the Rose Art markers if they tried, and I wanted to create something that featured Wilt, whom I feel is a much-needed role model for my students, and was education/school-themed, and had a child character that my students could relate to, since about 97% of them are African-American and many live in some rough neighborhoods, just as Wilt and Jordan did.
