I have what has to be one of the most peculiar phobias in the world - a morbid fear of that ugly little aspect of the human anatomy known as the belly button, or navel. Just the sight of them makes my skin crawl. Wearing t-shirts which leave my own such transgressor exposed to the world makes me feel terribly uncomfortable, and unless it's unbearably itchy I can't even bring myself to touch it. As for letting anybody else near it - forget it.
A couple of years ago I did a google search and was relieved to discover that I'm not alone in my curious aversion. Apparently it even has a scientific name -
Omphalophobia. Isn't that something?
