The Gregory Horror Show

Oh puh-leez tell me someone has seen the Gregory Horror Show!

If not, I'd strongly recommend it. It's a CGI compilation of shorts on three DVDs released at different times. All of the shorts introduce different characters and different themes of oddities, yet they all fit into the same general story line of the main character (you) trying to get out of the hotel. It is "shot" in a first-person view, so you, the main character, is rarely (if ever) seen. Most of the shorts are like puzzles... you have to really think about them in order to get the full value out of the story. The shorts are meant to be a little creepy/suspenseful and have comical gore in them, but it's nothing too terribly bad that would terrify the pants off of anyone.

The characters are mostly personified animals, but even the human characters don't look like humans. Everything is done in a chess-piece-like blocky style as such: http://www.budnitz.com/images/specimages/s-7262-1.jpg

My only complaint is the repetitive opening to every short... if anyone has seen this, you probably know exactly what I'm talking about.

They made a video game out of it, but I have unfortunately yet to play it.

Wow, someone who has heard of this besides me!

I haven't seen them all, but I have seen the game and the doll ones. The girl looking for her doll made me jump when she suddenly did her head twisting. Freaky...

EDIT: The series is based on the game, IIRC.

I was just as surprised to find someone on here that has heard of it!

The series is amaaazing. You can get the DVDs on amazon.com for about $20 each. I've got the 1st and 2nd DVDs, but not the third. If I'm not mistaken, though, the show came out before the video game. Wikipedia says "It was made into a PS2 game by Capcom which was originally released in 2003." While I know it IS Wikipedia, I still consider it relatively reliable. The American DVDs might have been released after the game, but it was a series in Japan a while before it came to the states.

Anyhow, the doll girl freaked me out, but I think one of the creepier parts is whenever the skeleton guy chases him through the graveyard!

I never ever heard about it. Must be an America thing.

Aw that's too bad if it is. You can at least sample it on Youtube.com, though.

Yup, you're right:
Show -- 1999 (from Rotten Tomatoes)
Game -- 2003

Aw, I've not seen the dolls anywhere! If I did, I'd buy them in a heartbeat!

(Glad you like it, BTW)

You have turned me on to a new oddity, thank you.:)

Any time! I'd love for more people to see the Gregory Horror Show because it is seriously underappreciated - it's not even on IMDb (or it wasn't the last time I checked). Anyhow, I'm glad - spread the word!
