2015: The year ahead in cinema

Found this article on Yahoo, thought it might make a good discussion topic:

https://www.yahoo.com/movies/2015-mo...798446342.html

I had no idea that there was a Jem and the Holograms movie in the works but, well, there it is. Frankly, I think Juliette Lewis and Molly Ringworm are a trifle too old to be playing any of the original characters, whom I'm pretty sure were in their 20's, but I definitely plan to see this one. I loved the old cartoon series, and besides, I had a crush on Kimber; she was a sweetheart. With red hair. Red hair always gets me.

Anyway... out of the 40 movies listed, the one I most want to see, by far, is Jurassic World, which looks like it'll be one hell of a thrill ride, if the trailer is any indication (you can find it on YouTube). Avengers: Age of Ultron is also high on my list, and Ant-Man looks intriguing as well. The rest are a mixed bag; some look interesting to one degree or another, some don't. That's my view, at least. How about the rest of you?

Is that a typo or are you not a fan of hers? I think it's pretty cool that such a notorious '80s actress will be playing such a role in a remake of a notorious '80s cartoon, personally. Wouldn't mind seeing it myself.

And I'm probably being cliche, but I look forward to Pan because I've always been a huge fan of that fairy tale, ever since I was a wee thing. Whether or not I like the story before the story, I always love seeing it come to life, whether it be animated or live action.

And also Cinderella, because I love seeing a cartoon come to life in a live action movie and I want to see how they do it. I also really want to see the Frozen short that's suppose to be preceding it.

And though I half expect it to be stupid, as a Star Wars fan, also The Force Awakens because I still have some desire to be faithful to that franchise.

The latter.

The Force Awakens might be good but I've never been a huge Star Wars fan. I've enjoyed the movies but never got into the series like I did with the Star Trek franchise. I'll probably wait for the DVD.

From that list, Jurassic World and possibly Everest, as I finished the book last year. Definitely excited about Jurassic World. ;D

I'm moving this one up a couple of notches on my list. Looks like Marvel has another winner.

No Kingsman: The Secret Service? Mind you, that's coming out next month, and I've already booked an advance screening ticket for it. Here's the trailer for anyone interested:

Looks pretty good; I may have to check it out next month.

Couldn't find a trailer for Jem & the Holograms, but I did find a site that's streaming the movie. Since the legality and ethics of this are a little questionable in my mind, I'm not providing a link. I also found one of those "Beyond the trailer" videos, which had some interesting news about the cast and the storyline:

This isn't the Jem that I remember. The movie just got downgraded a bit as far as I'm concerned. :P

The video also revealed that Hasbro has another toy/cartoon movie in the works for 2017 that made me want to scream, tear my hair out, and hit things. I'll let you guess what toy/cartoon I'm talking about. :P

A couple of trailers for Jurassic World, for those interested. The first is the first official trailer, from late last year:

The second ran as an ad during the Super Bowl last week:

This is going to be an amazing movie.

I've lost count of how many people complain about the CGI. There is a mix of CGI and animatronics, just like the previous three films. And unless its because I haven't watched the other movies in quite some time, I don't see anything worth complaining about. It looks like it'll be an amazing film.

I watched them all late last year. Maybe there's something amiss when you see them on the big screen but certainly not when viewed on my computer. Let 'em whine, I'm very much looking forward to the movie, I'll probably hike a couple of miles to see it in a theater, and I have no doubt I'll have a dang good time.
