Over the Hedge

Since the old board had a thread about the movie and comic, I wanted to make a new one.

And I just want say this:

I LOVE STELLA THE SKUNK

I can relate to her the most because I have low self-esteem issues, just like Stella's.

BlooCheese 10-14-2006 12:00 PM

Ooh! I want to watch this movie so badly!

kaytea 10-14-2006 12:02 PM

I loved this movie so much =D

I can also relate to stella caus I too have low self-esteem
like her I thought I wasn't pretty enough to find love
but we both ended up finding someone who loved us in the end

Edit:: my fave characters are Ozzie(sp?)
and stella

WE DIE TO LIVE!!!

Nyo 10-14-2006 12:16 PM

I actually made a Stella picture...;) I have to admit it looks very cute. I'll upload it soon.

You know what kaytea? We can make a Stella fan club on DeviantArt.

and omg totaly =D

Nyo 10-14-2006 12:30 PM

When should we do it?

And we should really get back on topic, becuase now this thread is turning into a Stella club.

taranchula 10-14-2006 12:42 PM

Ah they'll be plenty to talk about once the DVD is out on Tuesday, I'll probably give it a look once it's out. As I did enjoy the comic strip from which the movie is based on, back in the day. And I heard good things about the flick from various people, so why not.

kaytea 10-14-2006 12:50 PM

at first I thought this movie was going to suck
caus after I saw "madagascar"(sp?) I didn't have much hope for
Dreamworks anymore

but over the hedge changed that =)

Nyo 10-14-2006 01:01 PM

Kaytea, I uploaded Stella to dA. :)

kaytea 10-14-2006 01:06 PM

I commented on dev

Nyo 10-14-2006 01:08 PM

Cool.

kaytea 10-14-2006 01:15 PM

Spoiler Below
Omg remember the slow motion part with Hammy
the peoples expressions made me lol

Nyo 10-14-2006 01:25 PM

Yeah. All the little kids and adults in the theater were "ROFL" at that scene.

Quick question: Are you a Tiger/Stella shipper? I'm not. I dislike him.

kaytea 10-14-2006 01:30 PM

I didn't like Tiger
im more of a RJ/Stella shipper

Yeah, I agree. Tiger sucked. I hate him. I never saw the purpose of why he was put into the film.

kaytea 10-14-2006 03:22 PM

yeah :frankiemad:

It's SOOOOO nice to know there are people on this board who enjoyed this movie, I absolutely LOVED IT! I bought a rare original poster for the movie off Ebay with 4 celebrity signatures on it from 4 of the movie's cast stars.

Bruce Willis, Wadna Sykes, Steve Carrell, and Nick Nolte. I thought Stella was absolutely adorable, I just found her to be so cute and charming. I thought something was wrong with me because at first she didn't seem to do alot.

But once she got the whole make over, she was drop dead gorgeous for a skunk. I also give props to Bruce Willis, he made a great toon raccoon. I was worried at first that he'd be too serious of an actor to play this kind of role.

But he played it wonderfully and I really enjoyed this movie, the background music with Ben Folds was fantastic.

billytheskink 10-16-2006 08:36 PM

It was a pretty enjoyable film. One of the year's best in animation, actually. Enjoyed Shandlin's turtle quite a bit. A well done character.

The guy who drew the comic strip was once the editorial cartoonist for the university newspaper at the college I'm at.

Sparky 10-17-2006 06:32 PM

I noticed that all the major stores are doing a promotional giveaway with the DVD, making it hard to decide where to go to get my copy. Do I want a CD, a book of comic strips, or a Hammy plush? :wiltshock: At this rate I won't even *get* the darned thing, lol.

What store has the plush of Hammy? I have an RJ plush and they would go so well together.

Sparky 10-17-2006 07:02 PM

K-Mart for the plush.

WOW! I go to K-Mart sometimes...

I know Target has the CD if you buy the DVD there; Some does that mean if you buy at Wal-Mart, you get a book of the comics?

It's Best Buy for the book. We didn't get a Wal-Mart ad in the Sunday paper so if they have a promo I don't know what it is.

Nyo 10-19-2006 05:41 PM

Oh.

But...I GOT THE DVD TODAY. My mom bought it at CVS. ^_^ It was worth 20 bucks.

Imaginary Light 10-20-2006 07:57 AM

I'm buying the DVD today and will probably watch it today. I can't wait! I love Steve Carrel, so this should be interesting.

taranchula 10-20-2006 04:39 PM

If anyone wants to know, Wal-Mart (Or at least the stores in Canada) are offering a bonus "Hammy" DVD if you buy OTH there.

Sadly my trip to the "evil-empire" came up empty on that front, as I only got the DVD with no bonus stuff :(

Sparky 10-20-2006 05:12 PM

I'm not sure if the Hammy DVD is Wal-Mart only. The DVDs at the grocery store here also have some sort of bonus Hammy short movie included.

Oh what your referring to is "Hammy's Boomerang Adventure". Which is a short that is on the OTH DVD itself and you'll get that no matter where you buy the DVD from, while the bonus DVD I was talking about is a separate disk filled with other stuff. (What stuff? I am not exactly sure because like I said before I wasn't able to get a copy with the bonus disk packaged with OTH.)

Sparky 10-20-2006 08:10 PM

Oh okay.

I still don't know where I'm going to get my copy. I don't need a movie about Hammy so maybe I'll go for the CD.

Imaginary Light 10-21-2006 07:45 AM

Just watched it last night and loved it. It was a cute movie. I liked Hammy. The part where he drinks the soda and is moving so fast that the world stops had me ROFL:D

GrimTheLost 10-21-2006 01:35 PM

I originally watched it in theatres and the I got the DVD with the Hammy plush (Thanks Sparky for where it was) and I really enjoyed it again.

Mr. Marshmallow 10-21-2006 06:54 PM

I just got done watching it on DVD as well, and I totally love this movie all over again. I actually saw this twice in the theaters. I rarely ever do that unless I'm taking my dad or my brother who missed the chance to see it.

But I thought this movie was very sweet and very charming. It has a great cast of characters and I like I said before, Stella is down right lovable. I wish I could get a plushie of her, I missed the chance to win one at a fair in California.

One of my fav. parts of the movie, even though it may sound odd, was when they were captured in cages and Hammy was shaking like a rattlesnake. And Stella just reached up and touched his foot and Hammy instantly calmed down.

Call it pointless or a stupid thing to notice, but I fell in love with the movie after seeing that, I just thought thatw as a very touching scene.

Sparky 10-21-2006 07:05 PM

I noticed and liked that bit too. Ozzie was my favorite character, and while some of the scenes with he and Heather were a bit cliched and stretched, it was nice to see their relationship.

I'll probably pick this DVD up soonish, I do definately want it. Then Ant Bully comes out next month...I need to write a fanfic where the two exterminators meet and drown their misery at a bar or something. 8D

Funny thing is, that idea came to me but more or less having Pual Giamatti's Exterminator come over to help Wayne (Church) the exterminator. I want to write an Over the hedge fic really bad, I just need a solid idea to start with.

Funny you mention the exterminators because I remember the critics complained about both of them in both films, saying how both Sideways stars Giamatti and Church ended up as exterminators in family CGI flicks.

I think Hedge did a pretty good job covering all characters, even though some did shorter periods of air time. But I found Heather to be a sweet character and I liked seeing her with Ozzie, even if it was brief at times.

When she got kicked in the staircase, I was hurt because she REALLY looked dead to me. The Exterminators though I have to say Church did a far better performance then Giamatti, Paul barely had any lines and was WAY too cliche.

No personality was established and his defeat was too stupid to swallow. Wayne was much more tolerable and while his whole "verminator" attitude was typical, at least they gave him a personality and an idea of who he is.

I agree; but nonetheless I really enjoyed Stan Beals. His "defeat" (which I put in quotes because I also think it was stupid) and his underdevelopment as a character makes me want to write something about him - because I did like him, but was disappointed with the film's handling of his character. I've an idea for a fic, but that's offtopic to this thread.

Yeah. I totally liked the exterminator from OTH as well, and putting him and Beals together in a fic like you propose reminds me of something I read where Gaston (Beauty and the Beast) and Prince Charming (Shrek) teamed up to defeat their enemies. :) (It wasn't a pretty sight; but it was darn entertaining.)

Mr. Marshmallow 10-21-2006 07:46 PM

I love crossovers, I'm not good at writing them but I love them and I think and agree that it would be wise to meet up the exterminators rather then the animals from Over the Hedge and the ant coloy from The Ant Bully.

I was kind of hoping for more from Stan simply because I think Giamatti is a great actor, and his performance as a pain in the ass in Private Parts really impresed me. I also liked Vincent from Hedge, Nolte had a great voice for that part.

One of my early fic ideas was maybe bringing Vincent back with another wild animal or some other predatorial critter to get revenge on RJ and the others and kidnap one of em like Stella or the kids, like a sort of hostage set up.

I always like to explore characters emotional connections to their loved ones and Stella and Heather bring that out in the movie, or at least I felt so. So I thought about them just for an idea for a fic, I may or may not make this.

The only hard thing about making Wayne and Stan getting together to get revenge is to me, Wayne seemed the lesser of two evils between him and Stan. Stan seemed like a genuine creep and really wanted to kill the ants.

Which is fine, nothing wrong with that. I just felt weird because Wayne didn't seem evil to me other then a guy who just does his job. Granted killing animals for a living isn't the nicest profession, but his nature just didn't seem vengeance type to me.

Of course, that's just me but it's a great idea none the less.

GrimTheLost 10-22-2006 12:11 AM

I loved Shatner's performance in this movie. He is classic.

Invader Bloo 10-22-2006 12:17 PM

I ahven't seen it yet, I want to. Hammy looks great. :)

Sparky 10-22-2006 02:17 PM

I went to Target today to check out the "free" CD - and it's NOT free, it's a few dollars more, and it isn't all that great. I'll probably go to Best Buy tomorrow and get the book. So, I'm still DVD-less. :P
