Your 2009 Halloween Costume Thread
It's only, oh, 83 days until the trick-or-treaters come to your door, so the annual question is "What are you wearing on Halloween?" (Or, as cosplayers dub it "Amateur Night".)
I'll start with the fact I have a new professionally made in China Team Rocket Jessie and James costume ready, and will be doing Jessie on October 31st, and will also have James done as well beforehand, maybe for a pre-Halloween event. I'm also taking my Alice in Wonderland costume to Wildwood, New Jersey on October 23rd for their annual Halloween Parade and event at the Convention Center. |
Ok so it kind of depends,
See for Comic Con next year I think I'm going to try and dress up as Max from Capitol Critters (pretty easy, just a flannel shirt and hat plus a backpack) and so if I get enough time to work on that in time for Halloween than I'll just do that. If not I'll do my usual thing and take it as an excuse to wear my Corduroy suit complete with bell bottom corduroy pants suit jacket, and hemp rope belt. |
Ya know, I saw Halloween candy for sale for the first time at the grocery store this weekend. :o No decorations or anything, the store just seems to have gotten the first shipment of Halloween candy in, and decided to put it out on the shelf right away I guess. I swear some of the trees are already turning color up here, too. I'm definitely starting to feel that autumn vibe. I like it. :D
I haven't given it much thought as to what I'll dress up as this year. I haven't worn any of my Victorian/Edwardian costumes in a while, I'd love to wear one of those again. The only thing is those have more of a Christmas or Easter feel to them, not Halloween. :P If it's not too cold, I might dress up as a pixie. But I kind of doubt I'll be warm enough wearing a sleeveless leotard and a sheer overskirt. I just love that outfit, and really want to wear it again. |
The thing is it's not that the store decides to put it out right away it's kinda of must as in our store the receiving area/storage gets to be 90 degrees + and it has ruined thousands of dollars worth of candy before so it is taken to the sales floor
Plus Kroger at least we have due dates that certain things have to be out like by August I think 31st we have to set Halloween Heck we got the catalog for Christmas stuff in April. |
Perhaps that's the reason the candy is out already. It's just not chocolate or anything, it's the giant bag of hard and jelly candy assortment that we see every year, only at Halloween time.
I thought about costumes again today, and am also thinking about being an angel. My cat Joey has wings he can wear too. 8D I'll need new wings of my own though, the feathers are falling out of my old ones. I also lingered on the idea of dressing in Victorian underwear. :-[ It was underwear back then, but today, it's not as I'd be wearing two or three layers of clothing, and there'd be less skin exposed than in a typical cocktail dress. And corsets are popular costume accessories anyway so they're hardly unfamiliar. Hehe, I dunno, I'm still thinking about it but that might be cute. |
This topic always makes me depressed because there's no point in wearing a costume for me, and Halloween is my favorite day. :/ We get zero trick or treaters and there's no place to go, so why wear a costume. :( I just dress up for Wondercon/Comic-Con nowadays, and some years not even then.

No one usually sees my costume either. But I love my costumes so much, and have so much fun dressing up in them I wear them anyway, if only for myself. :)
I agree though, it's more fun when I can show them off. One of the best Halloweens ever was one about 5 years ago, I was actually off work and my mom and I went to an outlet mall and shopped all day. And I was wearing one of my Medieval dresses all day while shopping. It had a long flowing train and everything. 8D It was fun getting comments on it. |
I wish I had a Deadpool costume. So I can mess around with kids. :P
One of these days, I'm going to Comic Con as Deadpool & I'm going to mess around with people. |

I wanna see IB dressed as Mr. Herriman. 8D
I'm dressing as Darth Vader yet again, assuming there's a good party to go to. On Halloween itself I'll be taking refuge in one of the local restaurants. The one thing I miss about my old building was their "No Trick-or-Treating" policy; I could spend the evening at home without being interrupted every half-hour or so. This year I've got to go out and hide. :P |
Gee, Cassini, will you ask for the meatloaf again?
|
I live in a different area than last year, with different restaurants. One of them does have meatloaf, but in keeping with the scary theme of the holiday I think I'll be ordering the liver. :bloocross:

I might as well share that my work place has Halloween dog and cat toys, accessories and costumes up now. Including some licensed Disney costumes. I'm so tempted to get Joey a Peter Pan costume since he's been my favorite character since I was a wee thing. There's also a Little Mermaid one which I think would look adorable on my furry niece Jing Ling. 8D :berry: I just really don't want to spend $20 for each.
I'm still deciding what I want to dress up as. There's also an adorable dragon costume that's only $15 that I'm thinking about getting Joey. And I could dress up as a damsel. That would be fun. :D But then I'm still debating, I dress up in my medieval ones more than anything else. I want to do something different this year! Yeah, maybe we'll both be angels or I'll dress in Victorian underpinnings, and Joey can be a cowboy or something. |
You know, I envy you all dessing up and making a big event of it. Halloween is really just the evening once a year when kids come to collect their sweets. I might even try buying them off with fruit again this year now 'Sporticus' has them in his power.
Anyway the last time I dressed up as anything was as Che Guevera for a fancy dress do years ago and all that involved really was putting on a beret and fatigues. I think I'd like to have ago at the full scaly dragon outfit really with a big tail and little smoke bombs let off in the muzzle here and there. Something proper scary and intimidating. Still keep the glasses though. |
Sparky, you don't have to stay home on Halloween, but you can go out to parties. Just Google "Halloween Parties in [insert city here]" and there's a list (that will be occassionally updated as it were) of places to go.
|
Thanks but I'm uncomfortable around large groups of people, strangers or not, who are drinking and behaving sexually, as is the case with pretty much all parties. :P (Unless it's a church party or something, and frankly that sort of thing makes me uncomfortable too.)
|
And before All Hallows Eve, here's a picture of me in my brand spanking new Jessie from Team Rocket of Pokemon, as seen at the New York Anime Festival:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...nts2NoLogo.jpg The biggest surprise of them all was when Rachael Lillis, who was the original voice actress for this character, saw me dressed in this and her jaw dropped. She was so surprised, she even gave me her autograph. And I also saw our pal Waynekaa there as he worked the event for acparadise.com. |

I'm going to be dressed as Bad Girl from the game No More Heroes. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...m/_BadGirl.jpg I made the costume myself and it turned out AMAZING. I am so proud of it! I will definitely post pictures when I get some. I'm actually thinking of begging my photographer to take professional photos of it, but I haven't really asked her about it :/ Funny how I really dislike the sexiness of costumes AND heavy drinking, and the character I'm being is a trashy combination of both. Oh I just couldn't help it... I love the stark contrast of her character so much! |
I can't wait for Halloween. I have a party to go to, and I've decided to go as Lady Gaga:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...dyGaGaGaga.png I'm going to have so much fun getting ready, yay!:P |
Oooh the makeup for that should be a blast! You need to post pictures once Halloween rolls around =)
I saw a Lady Gaga wig the other day at the Halloween store that opened here. It would have been perfect for this! |
Quote:
This is the wig I bought; it does the job nicely.:P I'll definetely post pictures, and I'm looking forward to everybody else's pictures as well! |
Well, Joey's going to be Peter Pan, I got his little costume last Thursday. It fits great, it's perfect! 8D I'm still undecided what I'll be, but as I like to stay with the theme of things (Jing Ling will be Ariel, and now Joey Peter Pan), I'm wanting to be something to do with Disney, or maybe a pixie. I dunno, we'll see I suppose.
And IL, I can hardly wait to see your pictures! :) I bet you'll make an awesome Gaga. |
You should totally be a Disney princess, Lynnie. That's so you.:P
|
I do have an Aurora costume (Sleeping Beauty), but what I'd really like is a Belle costume, since I look so much more like her. One of these days, it shall happen!
|
I'm going as Dionysus, the Greek god of alcohol and debauchery. I'm making a bull mask and I'm going to wear artificial grapes and ivy along with a toga and some other things.
|
I'm gonna be vexen from kingdom hearts' organization 13!
I SO cannot wait! |
Yaaay I can't wait to see everyone's costumes!
I would show you a picture of the wig I bought, but it's no longer up on the site. I guess I got one of the last ones or something :/ IL, your wig is gonna be awesome =D The one I saw was kinda like this: http://www.amazon.com/Party-America-...reative=380733 Except it was specifically called "Pop star wig" or something to that effect haha. Lynnie, I think either princess would be adorable =D |
I'm going to a party this year, and I'm going as Pikachu! I bought a yellow shirt and skirt last week and I'm gonna make ears and a tail. It's gonna be funnnn!
|
xxxClaire, I wish I'd live in Ontario, 'cause with me as Jessie, I'd capture you (in a non-dating related sort of way!)

If for some reason, I AM doing something this year I'll make a cheap-o Wolverine costume, I'd just need to get a white Tank top (I already have the jeans & shoes). 8D |
GM and I are considering reprising our roles as Dr Forrester and Pearl from MST3K this Halloween, especially since we didn't get to wear those costumes at the Con the other year. The idea of Dr F and Pearl running around the Exploratorium just amuses me greatly.
|
Ha! That sounds like a very novel, awesome idea Sparky. I love that show so much. Funny thing is, though, not many people that I know of pay attention to the human characters, just the robots and the movie. The doc needs attention, too, dangit!
I got my costume all finished! I went to a costume party yesterday and got to wear it. The best part about my costume is not only can I wear it at Halloween, I can cosplay in it, too! Sadly all I have right now are crappy bathroom pictures that don't even show the whole costume (which ticks me off because the pantyhose I worked on are one of the cutest parts of the costume) but hopefully I can talk my photographer into taking some. Presenting S_D as Bad Girl from No More Heroes! http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...009_030400.jpg And a not-so-good photo of the back (it's hard taking a photo over your shoulder!) http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...009_031402.jpg |
This is homemade? Wow! Excellent job!!! ;D
|
Thank you!! Yep, 100% home made, right down to the embellishments on the stockings (that you can't see... boo!)
|
That turned out wonderful, Scary! Very nicely done!
I'm horrible and evil and horrible, and not in the good way due to it being Halloween and all. But I STILL haven't decided what I want to dress as. And now we're down to the day of dressing up. Ugh... Maybe I'll just pull all my costumes out of the closet and decide which one tickles my fancy the most at the moment. It's a game of chance. :P |
here's me as vexen!
http://th02.deviantart.net/fs51/300W...e_daffodil.jpg and a close-up http://th02.deviantart.net/fs51/300W...e_daffodil.jpg and me as twisted red riding hood http://th01.deviantart.net/fs51/300W...e_daffodil.jpg and slightly full body http://th00.deviantart.net/fs50/300W...e_daffodil.jpg |
Oh, yay, the pictures are starting to come in already!:P (I love seeing peoples' costumes.)
S_D, that's just freakin' awesome! I definetely want to see what the tights look like if you get a picture. And dummkoff, I really like the twisted Red-Riding Hood, that's fantastic.:bloosmirk: I'll be getting into my Lady Gaga gear in about an hour and heading to a party. I'll post pics tomorrow.:cheese: |
Oooh where did you get a keyblade? Haha your Red Riding Hood costume is my favvy!
And thank you to everyone who said they liked mah costume =D Right now I am sitting at home waiting for the first trick or treaters I've ever had in my life. I have lived out in the country or "no trick or treaters" apartment complexes for my entire life, so this is my first year to do it and I am SO excited. I will be upset if I don't at least get one. Seriously lol. |
