"Destination Imagination" speculation and discussion

As the title says, this thread is for speculation and, in 13 days, discussion about Destination Imagination, the upcoming Foster's movie event. If you learn anything about the movie and want to pass that info along, this is the place to do so, and if I manage to record a commercial for the movie, you'll find a YouTube link and screencaps here as well. :)

What do we know so far? Very little. We have the movie's name and airdate but little more. The only information I know of concerning the plot is as follows:

Full credit and my thanks to ORD for passing this along. Hard to know what to make of this; at first glance it doesn't feel like a Foster's story to me. It kind of reminds me of the beginning of The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe to some extent, based on what I know of it (I never saw the movie or read the book). I'm pretty much drawing a blank at the moment. Any ideas, y'all? :)

taranchula 11-14-2008 07:45 AM

I am going to hold off saying or thinking too much about the plot of this movie until the full story is told from fade in: to fade out:, sure the plot sounds a little out there for a show that has established what can best described as a kind of "rubber band reality" in which a typical story fluctuates between cartoon and realistic at the drop of a hat. But there are ways to take a story like this and still keep it grounded in said reality, but as said before one cannot really make any kind of assumption until the finished product is viewed.

Because I've said it once, I'll say it a million times one of the best things I like about Foster's is that sometimes a storyline can keep you guessing as to what is going to happen right up until the very end, just when you think you know the answers they go and change the questions.

antgirl1 11-14-2008 02:51 PM

If that's for real, we're in for a heck of a ride, aren't we? :D

But as soon as I read the part where Cassini said "Hard to know what to make of this; at first glance it doesn't feel like a Foster's story to me.", I immediately thought "Wikipedia's at it again!", even though apparently it's not the case...?

...Maybe in this imaginary world, imaginary friends create humans! 8D

Lynnie 11-14-2008 04:42 PM

I was expecting to see the first ad last night during "Har Har Tharsdays", since that's when they usually first air ads for the next week. Granted, Thanksgiving isn't next week, but I was still hoping they'd start advertising it by now. ::) CN's being dumb. I hope Craig and Co. aren't offended at the lack of advertising, thus lack of "interest", CN is paying their once biggest rating grabber. Don't worry guys, we still love you! :bye1: <--that's waving "hi" btw, not "bye"

antgirl1 11-14-2008 07:21 PM

It's all as if CN is wanting us to think that Foster's never existed...

bloonuggets 11-14-2008 10:27 PM

I did a check on TVGuide.com and it will air November 27 at 8 PM ET/PT with a replay following.

antgirl1 11-15-2008 09:42 AM

So, it's back-to-back? Does that mean we'd see the movie for about two times in a row? Is that right?

Cassini90125 11-15-2008 11:42 AM

That's correct, assuming that TVGuide.com is correct.

antgirl1 11-15-2008 12:01 PM

Sweet! I love watching awesome stuff twice...it gives me a chance to review/recap and remember. :D

Cassini90125 11-15-2008 12:05 PM

There is still no mention of the movie anywhere on the CN site. One would think that they'd be the first to offer a little info or at least the airdate but apparently not. :P

CrazyPhil 11-16-2008 06:29 PM

Well, if it helps, it's also listed in my Tivo schedule when I went to check it today. I don't know really how credible that is, but needless to say I've already got it set to record since I may be out of town for Thanksgiving.

emperor26 11-17-2008 05:28 PM

I'm not so sure whether the plot for the TV movie is real or not.

However, I'm glad that Foster isn't off the air for the moment, and can't wait for this to air. :D

Howard 11-17-2008 05:34 PM

Wellllll...I programmed my DVR to record "Destination Imagination," on all three times (I guess two on the 27th, and one a day or two later.

bloonuggets 11-18-2008 07:18 PM

That "day or two later", duck2k would be Sunday morning (11/30) at 7 AM ET/PT.

Remember, zap2it.com and tvguide.com are our friends...

Mac-a-lacka 11-19-2008 03:17 PM

Doing a search on Dish Network, I finally found it. :)

From what the info said, this is indeed the plot:

8 days away. I'm excited! :D

Cassini90125 11-19-2008 03:25 PM

So am I. The lack of info and commercials is frustrating, though.

Very frustrating. >:(

Cassini90125 11-19-2008 03:30 PM

Tommorrow will be the "one week to go" mark, maybe something will pop up. I'll have my recorder on as much as possible; if I manage to catch a commercial, I'll try to upload it to YouTube as fast as I can. Hopefully the CN site will make a segment available for viewing like they did with GWH.

pitbulllady 11-19-2008 04:47 PM

The lack of commercials is the most frustrating part, worse than lack of a plot. I can deal with lack of a plot, but it saddens me to no end that CN has obviously abandoned this show and refuses to promote it any longer, although it still has new episodes left. It's like a premature burial, before someone's even deceased!

Abandoned....reminds me of something...OH YEAH! This show's ALL ABOUT what happens to abandoned imaginary friends...It tells it so well, yet CN I guess, thinks otherwise. :(

But seriously, CN BETTER have a good reason for this...the last movie that first aired, I think the AD for it was at the START of November...almost less than a week away from this one, NOTHING.

fosters-fan 11-19-2008 07:56 PM

I seriously hope they didn't get our hopes up just to drop an anvil on things. Otherwise, I'm NOT gonna be a happy camper. :edmad:

One Radical Dude 11-20-2008 06:05 PM

There was an ad earlier on CN that mentioned "Destination Imagination" (there wasn't much displayed, but it was something), along with a few other movies that will be airing during Thanksgiving Weekend.

Lynnie 11-20-2008 07:23 PM

I just saw it too. Foster's didn't get any more screen time than the other movies airing that weekend, but what they did show was the "Foster's Five" in a boat, and Coco almost looks like she's holding the other four hostage with a flame thrower. She pulls the trigger and they all duck. I also see a boot that appears to be holding the boat stationary just off screen. Then there's a shot of Bloo free falling face first against a white background, and then a scene where Coco, Bloo and Mac are in a video game, and something looking like a squash lands on Mac's head, which appears to gain him points and he grows larger than Coco. He then runs past them off screen, and busting through brick walls as he goes.

Cassini90125 11-20-2008 08:22 PM

Just saw it myself; I'm disappointed that that's all they gave us. It's not worth the effort to screencap any of it. I sincerely hope CN gives us more than that before the premiere. :P

Cassini90125 11-21-2008 10:49 AM

The CN site finally has the movie in their listings. First showing is at 8:00 PM, with a replay at 9:30 PM, as already noted on the TV Guide site. Unfortunately, as of this writing the site is providing no additional details. Hopefully that will change before long.

antgirl1 11-21-2008 03:08 PM

Really? FINALLY some sign....it's a start, I guess.

EDIT: I saw the ad myself, and all I have to say is that I'm blessed enough that CN had the heart (and boy had it been cold lately) to even MENTION Foster's.

Yeah. About bloody time they aired Foster's! Feels like it hasn't been on in...... years. When it wasn't on at all for half a year.

Let's just hope that they'll be able to air five episodes after that, including the hree mentioned ones. They have to; thirteen per season is a rule. Not doing so would be like the ultimate cartoon blasphemy!

kammy101 11-22-2008 03:41 PM

OMG! I saw the commercial this morning and it just gave me a heartbeat when I saw the gang! I am SO going to watch it Thursday!!!!!!!!

Nyo 11-22-2008 06:28 PM

That plot sounds...very very weird. O_o And the lack of info makes it worse D:

But I'm still waiting :)

Actually this is the last movie, but not the last episode. The last one is a normal 20 minute episode and it's called "Goodbye to Bloo" :bloosad:

macalacka 11-23-2008 06:27 AM

wow thats depressing but im glad to hear its not the last episode.

Found this summary on Wikipedia earlier:

Quote:

Frankie dissapears and its up to Mac and friends to save her.
Given that this is from Wikipedia it's accuracy is questionable but I really hope the movie isn't going to use Frankie as a stereotypical "damsel in distress", as was done far too often with Daphne on Scooby-Doo. It's tiresome, cliched, and would personally be a little hard to take. :frankiemad:

The Huntsman 11-23-2008 10:18 AM

There are commercials airing on Cartoon Network and that episode summary is more-or-less accurate, but I have only seen the shortened version of the commercial and I’ve heard that the normal version provides more information.

Cassini90125 11-23-2008 10:25 AM

The commercials have started, then? Time to fire up the DVR. ;D

The smaller commercial is part of the larger commercial advertising Cartoon Network’s Thanksgiving programming. That’s the only one that I’ve seen. However, other fans have seen a stand-alone commercial that provides more information. Also, Cartoon Network Video is going to have interviews with the Foster’s crew all next week, before the special, and they might put the commercial on there as well. We’ll have to wait until Monday in order to find out.

antgirl1 11-23-2008 10:29 AM

Funny that they mention Mac first, then "his friends"...I myself would've just liked "the Foster's gang", because then there's no clear main character (since the show itself has so many characters that most of which had their own focus on, it's not clear, but I don't mind that)...

SAVING Frankie? What? Oh, so are they assuming that Frankie can't save herself, or that this "strange imaginary world" is holding her hostage or something?

I liked the original "plot" they gave us, even if it says "Mac and Bloo an the Foster's gang", which makes me speculate that MAC AND BLOO aren't part of the Foster's gang at all....8D

Unfortunately, they wouldn't be the first show that did something along those lines with their female lead. :frankiemad:

That's the one I'm aiming for. The interviews sound excellent; I look forward to seeing them. Hopefully they'll have some of them, and a preview, on their site's video section. ;D

Lynnie 11-23-2008 12:04 PM

Is it in the character of Craig and Co. to put Frankie in a "damsel in distress" situation? I dunno, what I'm expecting is Frankie to be "sucked" into this Imaginationland, and sure, at first she doesn't know what to do or think and may be a bit worried (I know I'd be). But she'd figure things out and probably play the game by doing quests or something in order to find her way out. And I imagine for the most part she's enjoying herself while at it. She's neither hoping for or expecting for anyone to come "rescue" her. It's the rest of the Foster's gang who find out what happened that freak out and they want to do whatever it takes to help. I also kind of expect an surprising twist near the end, which will no doubt be fun and exciting. :bloosmirk: We may be learning fast not to trust CN, but I'm confident we can still trust Craig and Co. in not to disappoint the fans. They recognize the fact that they have fans of all ages.

Most likely, given the sense of humor of the writers, Frankie is in no actual danger at all, but is probably doing something mundane like cleaning out an old cedar chest, and Mac, Bloo and rest, a la "Make Believe It Or Not", turn that situation into an adventure(Wilt probably gets reluctantly dragged into this one, just like in "MBION"). I don't want to see another helpless Frankie-as-damsel-in-distress(as in "TLP")again myself, since it's totally OOC for her.
