Soul singer and arranger Isaac Hayes, who won Grammy awards and an Oscar for the theme from the 1971 action film "Shaft," has died, sheriff's officials in Memphis, Tennessee, reported Sunday.
Singer Issac Hayes seen performing in the U.K. last year. Hayes was found dead Sunday at age 65.
Relatives found Hayes, 65, unconscious in his home next to a still-running treadmill, said Steve Shular, a spokesman for the Shelby County Sheriff's Department.
Paramedics attempted to revive him and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m., the sheriff's department said.
No foul play is suspected, the agency said in a written statement.

I'm at a loss for words now....

Chef's dead...for real...

Yet another death that I was completely shocked to read about. :(
I wasn't very familiar with his music, but I certainly enjoyed Isaac Hayes' performance as Chef on South Park. He will definetely be missed. R.I.P.

Ditto on what you said.

Didn't realize he was 65. Another one bites the dust...(sigh)

What is WITH this year? Is it just me, or is 2008 the year the universe decided talented people, from actors (Heath Ledger, Estelle Getty, Bernie Mac, Isaac Hayes, George Carlin) to writers (Arthur C. Clarke) to pop culture icons (Gary Gygax) have to die this year? This is honestly getting ridiculous and heartbreakingly depressing.

On a far spookier note, this is the picture on the front of Isaac Haye's website:

This kind of stuff happens every year actually.

Last year it was Anna Nicole Smith, the year before it was Steve Irwin...

I know. It's just happening on what at least appears to be a larger scale than usual.

I was familiar with him, and even some of his music. I was also shocked to hear this today. So sad! He wasn't that old either! :'(

And I hear what you're saying Nath. I agree, it seems like there have been more "unexpected" celebrity deaths this year than normal for some reason.

RIP Chef :(

I swear, all these deaths recently are so shocking

I can't believe that this happen all of a sudden, and that just after Bernie's death.

He'll sure be missed by everyone. :(

Life is both short and unpredictable. For some, life is shorter than others. It certainly hasn't been a great year for those in the entertainment industry. It's unfortunate to hear the news on Isaac Hayes. He was a talented man. :bloosad:

This was quite the blow for sure.

RIP Issac, thank you for your music, your charm, your style and for telling the world once and for all that Shaft is indeed a bad mother...

Shut your mouth!

Spooky indeed. It certainly doesn't hold up well for Mr. L. Jackson either...:macwor:

This is very saddening. Mr. Hayes was a great musician, and had a truly beautiful voice. The world is certainly a poorer place for this loss.

Then we can dig it.

This was major news for me-- I was sitting in my room when my dad saw the news bulletin on AOL and told my mom, "Hey, did you hear that Isaac Hayes died? ... Yeah, he was 65." :(

I was never a huge Isaac Hayes fan, but I loved him as Chef on South Park (at the tender age of 12, but I digress).

RIP Isaac Hayes-- you were awesome, you were funny and you were awesomely funny. <salute>
