Any Guitar Hero/Rock Band players?
Yeah, I've been awful bored playing the game with little ability to discuss it (besides the Guitar Hero forums), so I made a thread about it here. Any other players?
|
i play guitar hero 2 and 3 (mostly 3 though.) and occasionally go down to the local best buy and play their rock band.
my best song is probably "when you were young" since ive gotten 99% on it a few times. |
when you were young roflmao n00b song. XD
My favorite song is Even Flow. Comes from my favorite band, great solo, overall good song. |
I like Rock Band. I don't own it, but I've played it before. I like playing the drums. I don't really have a favorite song because..... I don't really have a favorite song...
|
My Rock Band guitar doesn't work right. D=
When you try to go into overdrive (AKA Star Power for the GH junkies) the tilt thing in the guitar doesn't work right. |
try pushing select. that works on the GH controller so it might work on the RB controller. is what i do.
|
I play GH3. My favourite song is Paint It Black.
|
Pressing select sucks on the Rock Band guitar, every time I do, I miss notes. That's why the score in my sig says 99%.
|
well, how do you push it? i usually have my pinky around it and push it during a chord.
|
I stay with my hand on the strumbar, but it's been working better recently. But my Star Power paths almost never use an activation in a long note, as that is a waste of SP that could be used on more major note areas.
... I sound like one of those ScoreHero freaks... |
I'm a GH2 player, because that's all I own. I can only use the guitar on easy and medium because my fingers aren't fast enough to hit the buttons. I'm on hard and expert for just the regular PS2 controller, so you'll never see me play with the guitar because I'm used to the hard songs nowadays. Such fun watching myself hit those solos. On the last day of school of this year, the 5th and 6th graders played GH3, and I really wanted to play, but the bell rang so I left. I really wanted to play "Holiday in Cambodia" though.
I really wish I had Rock Band, though. My cousin wants to do the drums for the game, and I want to sing for it. Even though I've never played it, I'm sure I can sing the male singers' parts very well anyway. Not much of the females, though. Some of the female singers, I think, hit notes too high for me to hit. |
I tried GH2 on a PS2 controller. All I say is this:
HOW THE HECK DO YOU PLAY LIKE THAT? Don't get me wrong, I beat Medium with it but... MY GOD it is hard to do. |
not really. then again, that is how i started playing GH. and how i currently play it. while it is slightly harder to hit the notes in GH2 than GH3 (at least it feels that way to me) its still pretty easy. this may be obvious, but (at least i) hold the controller like this:
left index finger on green, middle on red, ring on yellow, pinky on blue but at the side for easy movement to orange, right thumb (and for fast strumming index as well) on strum bar, pinky on select, and pretty much everything else around the whammy bar. i find it harder to play it on those smaller guitar controllers because i cant get my fingers near select and have to work just to grab the whammy (which is always loose for some reason.) also the notes seem more slick then they do on the controller i own, so my fingers sometimes slip. |
Last time I checked the PS2 controller scheme didn't have a strumbar.
Wow... Am I the only one who plays with a REAL guitar controller? For the record, you can't play Rock Band with a standard controller. It just recognizes it as a vocalist with no mic plugged in. So take THAT, controller players! :bendy: |

DISREGARD EVERYTHING I SAID EARLIER, IT MEANS NOTHING NOW. |
LOL.
I'm coming really close to FCing Here It Goes Again on expert guitar in Rock Band. (For those not good in terms of GH/RB, FC is full combo, which means hitting every note and not doing any accidental extra strums.) |
I've become somewhat of a modern music game junkie after giving Guitar Hero 3 a shot last Christmas. I've played them all save for Rocks the 80's (I refuse to pay 50.00 for a glorified expansion pack, and I am annoyed that Activision refuses to lower the price despite the game being out for over a year.) or Areosmith. (It's slightly cheaper but there are so many other games I'd rather buy first.)
Personal favorite out of all them has to be GH2 sure they're mostly covers but the ratio of fun/good songs is much higher compared to 1 or 3. Also the fact that 2 has Trogdor also balances the scales highly in it's favor. Of course after hearing the news about Ozzy's involvement in World Tour (See article below.) and the inclusion of his solo hit Crazy Train (A song I've wanted to see in one of these games since the first GH back in 05.) we might have a new winner. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/897/897355p1.html |
Finally, after so much GH2 hacks of it, Crazy Train is in GH...
Wow. |
I own, and play every single Guitar Hero game to date, and Rock Band. I can play expert on most songs, not including TTFAF. >< Yes, I am getting Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2.
It sucks...my bass drum pedal broke on my rock band drums. It snapped in half.:'( I have Guitar Hero: Aerosmith for the Wii, in case anyone wants to play me. And yes, I do have a guitar hero customs disc, and have modded my PS2, without taking the back of it off. |
just a note involving rock band - its really hard to beat a song without the orange pedal for the drums. i almost lost on learn to fly like 10 times today at best buy. ON MEDIUM. beat it, though.
havent played it in a while. i seriously plan to get a pre-order of world tour on my birthday then aerosmith with the cash. so far all i have is 2 and 3. oh and 2 is better. maybe thats because i love nirvana and the foo fighters and its the only game i own with both of them in it. also trogdor and dethklok. |

If I get GH3 on the PC that would be my only hack opportunity. |
I just picked up Guitar Hero: World Tour Wii version just this morning. (BTW I only was able to snag the version with guitar only, so I can't say anything about the drum/vocal portions of the game...yet.)
What I can say though is that from what little I've played thus far is that this is looking to be the definitive version of the Guitar Hero franchise (Until World Tour 2 comes out that is.) The reason being is the all new music studio mode (Can't wait to start making metal remixs of my favorite video game tracks.) and the fact the Wii version finally has access to all of the DLC and online modes as the other versions. Can't really say much else due to the fact I've barely scratched the surface of this game, but from what I am seeing thus far, I've got no complaints. |
OK, I myself just snagged World tour, but just the game, so no new instrument comments for the moment.
Tomorrow I'll get to playing the game, can't yet tonight, comments on the actual game will come then, but it looks like I'll have a good time tomorrow. Also, for the few who did get it, what are everyone's Wii friend codes online, for future reference? Online co-op looks good this time around, and I want in with as many people as I can. |
Here's mine: 429661776270
We should jam some time. |
you guys are lucky. i wont be getting world tour till christmas, if im lucky. and i probably still wont be able to play the drums till like the christmas after that. :P

And indeed we should. |
Well, I got World Tour! ^_^
And I;m getting Rock Band 2 for Xmas (hopefully) |
I've played Rock Band 2 a few times. Only on demos, though, because sadly, I don't own the game since I don't have the money to buy it right now. I was playing the drums on expert level about the third or fourth time I tried it. It's a fun game. :)
|
After playing (and owning) every single one of these games to date, I'd say Rock Band 2 is my absolute favorite. ^_^
I can almost beat BYOB on Expert drums.... |
Since I've now got the Wii, I need to ask something:
I'm planning on getting one of these music games, but I don't know whether to go for Guitar Hero: World Tour or Rock Band. Can anyone help me with the difference between the two, so that I know which one to get? |

After reading a couple of reviews for the Wii version (since that's the only console I have), I may go for GTWT, but what I now want to know is which package of GTWT to get: the solo guitar pack, or the complete band pack? I know the difference is in the price.
|
Well, there is a much wider range of DLC for Rock Band 2 (not everyone has wi-fi and/or wants DLC), and RB2 for Wii has all the features of 360 and PS3 versions, whereas GHWT for Wii only allows online play between two Wii consoles over Wi-fi.
When comparing graphics, GHWT for Wii has graphics that are sub-par compared to WT for 360 and PS3 (as did GH3). On a personal note, I prefer Rock Band 2 mainly because the setlist, in my opinion, is better and because the in-game characters look more realistic to me. |
I don't know what's sadder?
The fact there are Spongebob Squarepants songs available for download on Rock Band 2, or the fact I actually paid money to download two of those tracks just this morning? Well I will say that watching my six foot tall muscular hairy tattooed frontman belt out "The Best Day Ever" did take away some of the buyers remorse. |

Actually, I have only played guitar hero once since moving the ps2 into my room (mainly because my brother hates that game for some reason.) So by now I'm probably pretty rusty. |
I'm now an official Guitar Hero player! 8D
Got myself Guitar Hero: World Tour (the solo guitar pack) tonight and played a bit of it. But I'll have more go's at it tomorrow! |
I guess to celebrate the release of Transformers: Rise of the Fallen, any one who has Guitar Hero: World Tour can now download Stan Bush's 80's rock anthem "The Touch" (AKA The love theme from Transformers: The Movie :p ) for the low low price of "Free"
I've been waiting for a while for either one of the the big name music games to pick up this track, and now it's finally happened. |
MAJOR update for me. 8D
Since getting Lego Rock Band for Christmas, I've been playing Lego Rock Band more than Guitar Hero: World Tour, and I have a feeling that there may be one of two reasons why: Either because the song selection is great, or the graphics on Rock Band are better than Guitar Hero. When you guys had to decide, did you choose because of the song selection or was it because of something else? Because I'm once again stuck between Guitar Hero and Rock Band. |
