The NF Donations Thread

(Because I don't want to talk about donations or finances in the main NF thread anymore, but it's about the website so I put it in the same section.)

Donation Link

This site's domain will expire on July 1. Unfortunately, right before Comic-Con isn't the best time for me to cough up extra money on top of the regular monthly fees. Donations would be greatly appreciated (and not just from those that usually donate...).

One year will run us $40, two years will run $75, 3 would be $100. I usually prefer to go two or three years but if all I can afford this time is one year it's fine.

We have until July, I just wanted to post this now.

koosie 05-24-2008 03:51 AM

That's a sad thing. I'm feeling a little guilty because I've got this green banner under my name and I've not donated anything for a long time. I hate making excuses but fuel is currently $2.40 a Litre here and I'm struggling to pay back the bank every month. Things are tough all over I suppose. Maybe things will turn around in June.

So will all this be erased if we don't pay up?
:'(

Sparky 05-24-2008 02:27 PM

Oh, no. It would just hurt GM and I a lot less if people helped out.

One Radical Dude 05-24-2008 09:07 PM

I'll try to help you out a bit before July 1.

Shelltoon 06-01-2008 03:23 PM

Hopefully you'll have received my donation soon. It should be enough to keep the domain alive for another year.

Sparky 06-01-2008 03:46 PM

Yes thank you, but it's best to buy multiple years so I hope to get more donations. Plus I can barely afford this month's site fee as it is, so there's that too. Remember it's not just the domain name renewal, this site costs me $35 every month, plus renewing the vBulletin license every year as well.

Shelltoon 06-13-2008 01:39 AM

I got paid today, so you should be receiving my donation soon.

Sparky 06-13-2008 02:49 PM

I do appreciate it...things are pretty tight around here right now.

Sparky 10-21-2008 02:58 PM

I always hate having to ask, but I could use some more donations. So anything anyone can give would help. You can make donations here.

I also have some [adult swim] t-shirts that were donated to me by narfcake, and I'd like to sell those.

http://www.fosters-home.com/forum/my...tswimshirt.jpg

(That's a really small CN logo on the back.) I have 3 L's and 4 XL's. Since I'm seeing them go for about $10 on eBay I'll put them up for $10, shipped. If you want one Paypal me at sparky@theneitherworld.com rather than the donations email. I'll keep the numbers I have up to date in this post.

Please don't forget about the Cafepress and Amazon shops as well. Thanks.

koosie 10-22-2008 04:32 AM

It is with great shame that I have to plead poverty again. I'm sorry Sparky. Things didn't turn around like I'd hoped this summer so it looks like it'll be yet another hard winter up here. Every year I wish they'd give christmas a miss just for one year so we didn't all have to waste our money buying stuff for each other we don't really want or need. I'm prepared to make an exception for the kiddies of course as it's not fair to deprive them of pressies but then that's easy for me to say as I don't have any.

Anyway as soon as things pick up, you'll be the first to know. If I can help in any other way like pestering or intimidating people into handing over money, I'd be glad to. :edmad:

Shelltoon 10-22-2008 12:04 PM

I'm a little low on funds right now, but next paycheck I should be able to donate a healthy sum.

Sparky 10-22-2008 02:40 PM

It's okay you guys, no one has to feel like they "have" to donate. We have nearly 1000 members but it's really only the same group of people I hear from whenever I ask for donations. If everyone or just the majority of people would donate just a couple dollars we'd be set for a long time, but it doesn't happen that way. So really, there's no pressure or just one or two people or anything.

I've also started making things to sell, hopefully that will help.

Sparky 10-23-2008 07:57 PM

By that way, a heartfelt thank you to those of you who have already donated; sorry I didn't say so before but I've been quite scattered. :P Anyways to see a preview of the first item that will be up for sale (besides the [as] t-shirts) click here. Thanks.

One Radical Dude 10-23-2008 10:14 PM

I really would contribute. Unfortunately, I'm still seeking work.

Sparky 10-27-2008 07:46 PM

Okay I have added a page to my other site showing stuff I have for sale, click here.

Included is the Wilt hoodie I just finished. :D

Sparky 02-19-2009 12:02 PM

I'm putting out another call for donations. For those of you who don't know, I am going to be starting a small home embroidery business this year, which is the main reason GM and I won't be making the '09 Comic-Con. I can use all the donations I can get to keep the site going while I use all my spare cash to buy supplies for the business. Once I get the machine and design software I will make another thread for that, for people who may be interested in placing orders. Thanks.

Sparky 04-03-2009 05:51 PM

I received a donation today but they did not identify themselves and their email address does not match any of the addresses in the forum database. If you made this donation and are a member here and you wish your account to reflect the amount donated (or have it counted towards "Sponsor" status) please contact me. Thank you.

Sparky 06-18-2009 12:36 PM

I got another donation from someone I don't know (their email addy doesn't match anyone here). It amuses me because it was only for 10 cents and Paypal took all of it in fees, so it was really a donation of zero. I wonder if they did that on purpose.

I donated recently, and just got my "sponsor" status. I hope it helped - if not, I can come up with a little more next pay period.

Sparky 06-18-2009 09:26 PM

I don't check the donations email every day (my email program only tells me when my main addy has mail, I have to manually check all the others) so I'm sorry I didn't get to it right away. Dude, of course I need money, Con's coming up. 8D But you're going too so I'm sure it's better off in your own wallet. ;)

Sparky 07-29-2009 04:08 PM

It's that time again, sorry. :( I need $40 for site hosting and it's time to renew our vBulletin license - this price has gone to $60 per year (I think it was like $35 before). I just came back from vacation to find a $175 bill from the DMV waiting for me, so you can see I have a problem. :P If anyone can help out it would be awesome. Thank you.

Lynnie 07-29-2009 06:06 PM

Now that I have a little money to throw around again, let me pay my rent and make sure all my bills are up to date, and I'll see if I can help out. ;) :)

Sparky 08-01-2009 07:33 PM

Btw I just wanted to clear up, the vBulletin license was $40 not $60 (it said $60 in the renewal email) and the monthly site fee is only like $20 not $40 - I forgot part of that is for my other site theneitherworld.com and you guys don't need to donate to that, lol. I could still use donations I just wanted to clear up the amounts I posted before.

Sparky 10-13-2009 07:59 PM

Okay, we talked about this at the Comic-Con but I wasn't able to implement it until now because I was working on other projects...

Remember the Foster's badges I posted here? And I said they weren't for sale? They're not...for sale. However I've decided to start giving them out as gifts in exchange for donations. You know how when you make a pledge to a public TV station they give you gift depending on how much you pledged? I'm doing something like that. Right now all I have are those badges (I'll make more designs as I get the time). I also have a round Never Forgotten badge the same size, I don't remember if I've posted that anywhere here, but its the same design I put on this bag, just smaller.

So let's say that every $25 you donate gives you one "point" you can redeem in any way you want. The round badges are worth one point each, so you could get one of those per $25 you've donated. Future designs may be larger/more complicated and be worth multiple points, so you could wait until I create something you want to donate, or donate whenever and just wait to redeem your points.

This is retroactive, so if you've already donated you may request badges whenever you like. (I'll keep track of how many points you've spent.)

Shipping I guess will be free. I know shipping stuff overseas will be more expensive but I don't want to penalise people for being in other countries. So hopefully that's fair. And hopefully giving these out as gifts in return for site donations is okay, I didn't exactly ask Craig. (Btw these come as iron-ons by default but if you want them with no backing so you can sew/glue them on, be sure to tell me!)

I don't remember seeing this, did you share it before? I remember your "big" backpack, which, I still say is the most awesome backpack ever. And I applaud you for finding the time to do all these things, sometimes I don't know how you do it.

Do you have any ideas yet as to new designs you might be coming out with later?

Sparky 10-14-2009 05:29 PM

I don't think I did on here, just on DA.

To make new designs I will most likely turn to clipart and like, images from the calendars. I've been busy with commissions lately but if anyone wants something specific for their donation let me know.

Sparky 03-16-2010 08:17 PM

Well the show may have ended but the site fees have not budged. As I recently started a home business and my expenses are still outweighing my income, I can use all the help I can get to keep this site running. I don't want to be a bother, but donations really would be helpful. Thank you.

(Or you could buy/commission some stuff from me.)

Sparky 05-29-2010 05:53 PM

Sorry, could use some help again (like 20 bucks)...this past month has been pretty dry income-wise. :/ Thanks.

(Btw we have the yearly vBulletin and domain name fees coming up in a couple months I think it is, just a heads-up.)

Howard 05-29-2010 07:07 PM

If you can hang on until the 15th of the month - I will pony up.

Sparky 05-29-2010 09:04 PM

I think the website fee goes through the first week of the month, like around the 5th (just for everyone's info). But I'll take what I can get. ;)

Sparky 06-14-2010 03:51 PM

Okay domain name renewal is due, it's $45 for one year or $85 for two (not enough of a savings to worry about I think, so the one year is cool). I've already received a generous donation this month, so I don't need the whole amount, but anything is cool. I'm frankly not sure if there will be a renewal fee for the vBulletin license or not, that comes up in August so I'll know then.

Sparky 06-23-2010 11:29 AM

Um, you guys, I'm not kidding, we're going to lose the fosters-home.com domain in a few days if I don't get some help renewing it. I just got the deactivation notice. No, I don't have $45 right now, I don't have health insurance and I just had a doctor's appointment and had to pay out of pocket. :( That cleaned out both my accounts, there was nothing I could do.

Sparky 06-23-2010 02:50 PM

Oh god, stop, that's enough. :wiltshock: Thank you very much, this will cover the vBulletin renewal in August too. I appreciate it!

Sparky 11-02-2010 08:54 PM

Gotta ask for donations again...I now have a $250 minimum payment each month for my new embroidery machine that's going to be hard to work around. :P Especially this first month. Just sayin'. :/

Sparky 11-04-2010 01:08 PM

A few bucks maybe? :( Website payment went though and I have like 4 dollars to my name now. :P

Sparky 06-22-2011 10:59 AM

Time to renew the domain name (due the 1st). It's $50 and money's tight right now, would appreciate a little help. Thanks in advance.

AcornBulb 08-21-2011 04:57 AM

How's it going with the money? It's still okay? And how much do you need?

Give me some details, maybe I can help.

Sparky 08-21-2011 01:09 PM

Well I don't recall getting any donations for my last request. Normally the site costs me like $15 a month, unless there's a specific expense.

AcornBulb 08-22-2011 01:08 AM

Oh, all right then. I hope I still have some money, so when you'll need donations, I'll make one too. ;)

That time again. I haven't gotten any donations in a long time but I thought I'd mention it anyways. ;D
