Mac Cosplay - "Mascot" style

Well I decided to cosplay Mac at the 2007 Comic-Con (not my original plan, for anyone to whom I said I was planning something but that I wouldn't reveal what it was in case I didn't do it - now I'm not doing it, so I'm glad I never said :bendy: ). But anyways, I'm going to attempt to make a mascot head, I'm not just going to like, wear a wig or something. This is a full mascot-style costume, so I can match ORD with his Bloo mascot costume. :bloosmirk:

Anyways, I've started a blog documenting my progress. I did the first step today, so you can go look at that. I'll post here whenever I finish another step.

Mac Mascot Costume

Hopefully I can complete this as planned and not fail horribly. :P Lol.

Good luck!

One Radical Dude 03-01-2007 06:25 PM

You can DO it!! ;)

taranchula 03-01-2007 06:42 PM

You're so ambitious, you'll do anything to get...... "Ahead"! 8D

Get it, get it?!........ I'll just go now...

Crash-N-Cortex 03-01-2007 07:03 PM

Good luck with making the mascot head.:)

Carlaz 03-01-2007 08:23 PM

Best of luck Sparky! Can't wait to see the finished product!

kageri 03-01-2007 09:22 PM

Good luck! I can't wait to see it when it's done, and hooray for spreading the greatness of Foster's through cosplay!

Imaginary Light 03-03-2007 09:31 AM

Awesome idea! Gah, I would never want to attempt to actually make a mascot-style costume; it'd just be too hard;) Good luck8-)

scary_dream 03-03-2007 09:46 PM

Oooh good luck Sparky!

You're talented enough, I've seen some of the other things you have made, so I know you can do it ;)

Sparky 03-04-2007 04:13 PM

The construction of the harness with chinstrap, and its attachment to the foam block, is now posted. It's looking pretty good, but its still much too wobbly. Even if I tightened the chinstrap. Its because the foam block is hollow I suppose. I'll try to find a way to staballise it somehow.

Sparky 03-04-2007 10:10 PM

Looking at the photo of the Mac costume in this thread, I'm starting to think I might have approached this differently...Oh well, there's still plenty of time.

AprilDawn 03-05-2007 12:36 PM

Holy crap!
I mean, I know it will look great and all, but its just so creepy after looking at the pics thinking of a giant Mac head walking toward me! xD
Good luck! Cant wait to see it finished. :D

Sparky 03-05-2007 02:50 PM

I'm going to be starting over from scratch, using a different approach. I don't feel *too* bad about buying all that foam, I did get a great deal on it, and hopefully I can find another use for it later on.

waynekaa 03-06-2007 07:13 AM

Nice in Progress! Remember, it is SDCC so it's gonna be hot down there. Give yourself plenty of vents.

Sparky 03-06-2007 02:50 PM

I've started over, and it's going to have lots less foam, and like, plastic canvas now. And a fan for sure.

HappyFoppy 03-07-2007 09:57 PM

I'd love to see progress on this. Good luck, Sparky! :D

Sparky 03-11-2007 10:58 PM

Okay, I've completed the new frame. It's light, I can lean in any direction - and right now I can fit through standard doorways, though that may change after I add the sheet foam, etc.

The link, again.

Not pictured are my hot glue burns. :P I don't have a lot to do this week, so hopefully I can make more progress on this thing.

chesme 03-12-2007 07:09 AM

Can't decide where the fan should go? Can I ask what type of fan you will use?
Most proppers/costumers use little computer fans, and I think two of those in the front lower corners should do well.

GrimTheLost 03-12-2007 12:25 PM

That is going to be awesome. Good luck.

Sparky 03-12-2007 10:10 PM

Next phase is up!

scary_dream 03-12-2007 10:32 PM

The photos look great!! I can't wait to see the whole thing.

Lol right now without all of the extra adornments and just the giant square head on your normal body, you remind of the character designs from the Gregory Horror Show. 8D That's a cool thing, though.

One Radical Dude 03-12-2007 10:48 PM

Sweet stuff there. :) I'm looking forward to the finished product.

GrimTheLost 03-13-2007 07:30 AM

This is exciting!

koosie 03-13-2007 03:16 PM

This is impressive stuff, Sparky! You're at the cutting edge of Mac-impersonation-technology.

bloonuggets 05-21-2007 12:57 PM

I was just thinking, of Sparky can be Mac, maybe One Radical Dude can pull out the Bloo costume at Comic Con and show Lauren and Craig (along with Keith and Sean) the costumes for the whole world to see.

Sparky 05-21-2007 01:17 PM

Um, the whole reason I'm making the Mac costume is because ORD is bringing his Bloo costume. Otherwise I was going to be someone else. But I thought Mac went best with Bloo.

xxxClaire 05-21-2007 02:08 PM

Good luck! I'm sure this is going to turn out awesome and I can't wait to see the final product! :)

One Radical Dude 05-24-2007 07:45 PM

Yeah, no doubt. Everyone's looking forward to it. I'm going to be shipping the thing to my friend's place in July, because it's going to be hell trying to bring the thing with me at the airports.

Cassini90125 05-24-2007 08:29 PM

Things could get mighty interesting if you wear it to the airport and try to board the plane that way, even more so if you do it in character. 8D

Bloo2daMacs 05-25-2007 05:57 AM

IN CHARACTER?!!

Oh my lord, I already feel sorry for the airport peoples. :P 8D

8D 8D 8D That would be hilarious!

Heh, I'd either be forced to get rid of it or be thrown out. 8D If I were allowed to bring it there, I'd probably be charged for a second seat. :P

kageri 05-29-2007 09:53 AM

If you do take it on the plane, be sure to call the plane 'smelly' and make a big show of telling everyone how they're trying to starve all the passengers by offering them only peanuts and inedible airplane food and it's a huge conspiracy and they have you all in their trap and everyone's going to die. I would pay real money to see that.

Cassini90125 05-29-2007 11:48 AM

Oh, man, so would I. Dude, you have to do this; I'll give you a check for your time and effort, and I'm sure everybody here at NF will be happy to contribute to your bail. 8D

I think that bail may be out of the question...you'd be far more likely to find yourselves on a way to a mental health tribunal. 8D

I say go for it. :D

One Radical Dude 05-29-2007 08:23 PM

:wiltshock: You guys want ORD in jail or in some mental hospital?! What's the matter with you people? 8D I thought I was loved here. ;)

Anyway, I think we're going WAAY out of bounds here (too much talk about the Bloo costume).

bloonuggets 05-30-2007 09:34 AM

Agreed. Let's get back to what Spark's doing.

CG 05-30-2007 05:03 PM

Here's an idea, when we're all cosplayed up we get t or Cas to work the camera and we'll walk around outside the convention, the streets themselves and act out the three in public. See who gets dragged away first. :P

Sparky 05-30-2007 06:47 PM

Finished the "skin" today.

Mac Cosplay Main Page

Next step is the hair, then hopefully the fans. I have also tracked down all the supplies to make the backpack and will do that when I can.

Anyways, it doesn't look all that...good. But it's the best I can do for my first time making something like this. :P

One Radical Dude 05-30-2007 07:07 PM

Lol, I think it's looking good, personally. You're doing a fine job. Keep it up. :)
