Favorite Bands/Artists/Songs/Etc.

Just as with the original thread, you know what to do. :)

My favorite bands/artists are as follows, in no order except the first few:

Radiohead, Muse, Coldplay, U2, Travis, The Verve, The Mars Volta, Sufjan Stevens, Pixies, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, The White Stripes, The Killers, The Stone Roses, Oasis, Blur, Stereophonics, Keane, Doves, Snow Patrol, Manic Street Preachers, Arctic Monkeys, Feeder, Suede, Starsailor, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Perishers, Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, Beck, Hard-Fi, Editors, Modest Mouse, a-ha, Tears For Fears, Gary Numan, and Depeche Mode.

Many of these bands are British/UK-based rock, which seems to be the music I gravitate towards. Coldplay gets extra credit for being my personal gateway band, I heard "Speed of Sound" on the radio last summer, which led to me getting their new album, which led to me getting their other albums--and then decided to look up bands similar to them, thus directing me to most of the bands I just listed. Before that, I wasn't really into music, but it's now one of the most important things in my life.

That's not all I listen to, though. I love discovering new music, and am willing to listen to anything as long as it's not manufactured radio garbage.

As for you...?

SkittleMonkey 08-18-2006 06:50 AM

Well, first I'd like to start off by saying that before I list ANYTHING, don't be quick to judge! I like listening to J-pop! THERE, I SAID IT!!!! BUT besides that, I also like:

Coldplay, Rebecca St. James, Barlow Girl, Superchic[k], Keane, Tobymac,
KJ-52 and John Reuben

I think that's it. But those are only my FAVORITES. I'll listen to anything, just so long as it's not Country or extremely heavy Screamo(or however you spell it).

kageri 08-18-2006 07:21 AM

J-pop (of the synthy, hyperactive variety... don't ask), Jim's Big Ego, They Might Be Giants, Weird Al, Lemon Demon... but yeah, I'll listen to most anything that's catchy and not rap/hip-hop.

Imaginary Light 08-18-2006 08:48 AM

Well, I'm really into Lacuna Coil right now. Like, really into them. Like I have to listen to one of their CDs on my iPod everyday. But I also love Evanescence, Seether, Mudvayne, Nickelback, Trapt, Green Day, Panic! At The Disco, Def Leppard and so many others that I could be here all day...

leadballoon 08-18-2006 05:52 PM

I'm going to recycle my list off the old site (again!)...

Music is HUGE for me, I really really couldn't get by without it - it's the sizzle to my wizzle :D

My favorites are Faith No More, They Might Be Giants, Frank Black (& The Catholics, if they're around), Mr. Bungle, Aphex Twin, Pink Floyd (wow!), Pixies, Decay, New Order, Black Sabbath, Depeche Mode, The Blues Brothers (also one of my favorite films!), Michael Jackson, Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention, Brian Eno, The Beatles, The Stranglers, Warren Zevon, Fantomas, Tomahawk, Bal Sagoth, Daft Punk, Orb, Bob Marley, Nobuo Uematsu (computer game music...), Radiohead, Pagan's Mind, The Smiths, The Cure, Spinal Tap, Muse, Primus, System Of A Down, and Mike Got Spiked (a band from Dublin who are AMAZING, and coming to the states soon for a tour I've heard).... *phew*

Sounds like a lot, but I really love all of them, and I spend an unreal amount of time listening to them all I'm going to see Radiohead on the 24th in Dublin, and then Daft Punk are playing the day after in the same venue! I'm so excited...two of my favorite bands EVER! Next week! Ohmygodohmygodicantebelievethatthistimenextweekill haveseenemboth....
(similar Goo-style ranting ad infinitum)

Scribble 08-19-2006 12:21 AM

As I said before I don't really have a favourite band - I tend to just like random songs from all sorts of groups and artists. So I can't really pinpoint a band I really like, I might only like one song from a particular artists. XD And if I listed all of my favourite songs I'll be here all day.

But I can say that I am a big fan of J-Pop myself. I probably listen to more Japanese songs than English ones actually. o.o

vannielou 08-19-2006 07:46 AM

woo! grimthelost another cake fan!!!!!
I was watching Rockstar Supenova the other day and this girl was singing I willl survive and the guitars sounded just like cake's version on fashion nugget and I told my mom how depressed I was that she wasn't singing like they did, she totally ruined the song. Then Dave Navarro (or however you spell it) told her it was horrible. Then the next day on the show he's like "If you've ever heard the cake version of that song you'll know why I thought your performance was bland."

SkittleMonkey 08-19-2006 09:55 AM

GrimTheLost, you like Malice Mizer? They're totally awesome!!! Well, they were when they were still around, at least... :D

GrimTheLost 08-19-2006 10:50 AM

Oh yeah I <3 cake with alot of verocity. They kick it old skool...

And hells yeah I love Malice Mizer my friends drug me into J-Rock and I have never looked back.

SkittleMonkey 08-19-2006 01:48 PM

I drug myself into J-rock and look back occasionally. As I said, I'll listen to anything 'cept country and heavy screamo. I listen to only a few of Gackt's songs though. I mean, I know he was the original lead vocalist of Malice Mizer, but now he's become waaay too much of a girl magnet. Come on, he calls his fangirls DEARS! Girls look at him like a starved lion looks at a slab of meat! And now that I've finished my microscopic minirant, I think I'll just get lost, now... *skitters off into faraway corner*

GrimTheLost 08-19-2006 03:38 PM

People used to look at my pics of Malice Mizer and go, "Ooh, she's hot. I'd do her... blah blah blah." I would laugh and tell them that they were guys and they would leave, scream and maybe throw up a little... Good time good time.

I know, it's hysterical to watch the looks on people's faces when they find out Mana's a guy. In my opinion, Kami looked more like a girl than Mana did and he had waay less makeup.

Honestly, they all look good. I wish I could look like that in makeup. *sobs a little on the inside*

SkittleMonkey 08-19-2006 04:20 PM

So, do you have a favorite song of theirs?

Let me see........ dang I can't remember the names of them. This is embarassing. I like alot of the stuff. It's all good.

SkittleMonkey 08-19-2006 04:35 PM

I know. The names of their songs are difficult to remember if you're not looking directly at them while you're typing. Do you know of the other main vocalist they had right before they went on haitus?

I think it was Klaha.

SkittleMonkey 08-19-2006 05:38 PM

Yeah, he's awesome. He is/was a solo artist. I don't know if he quit or not. Do you?

GrimTheLost 08-19-2006 05:52 PM

No idea.

SkittleMonkey 08-19-2006 05:58 PM

I'll have to look that up. Give me a sec...

....................

Yep, he's still around, although he hasn't released anything since 2004...8D

One Radical Dude 08-19-2006 10:36 PM

I'll listen to pretty much anything, although I'm turned off by music that's either too foul (like a lot of gangsta rap songs are) or songs that are too political.

I went to the Pulse Festival the other day and saw Barlow Girl and TobyMac...Plus Salvador, Jeremy Camp and Andy Chrisman. Newsboys were there too, but I had to leave early. :frankiemad:

billytheskink 08-20-2006 05:01 PM

I grew up listening to 1960's and 1970's rock (it was on the radio stations that my parents listened to), so I'm partial to music from that era. The Guess Who, J. Geils Band, Sly and the Family Stone, and the Beatles are all favorites of mine.

I also own every Weird Al Yankovic album.

I'm also a big fan of the old rap trio, The Fat Boys. Sadly, their records haven't been in print in 10+ years.

leadballoon 08-22-2006 03:15 PM

WOW.....

It has finally hit me - I'm going to see Radiohead & Daft Punk, two of my favorite bands EVER!!!! :o
