Far better than some movie ideas that I've heard about, but yeah, I think this is likely to be a major flop. I've seen nothing about it on any of the sims sites I frequent, so I wonder just what the status of the film is right now.

And then they could have a variation of the "protagonist wakes up and realizes it was all a dream" ending, where the player's game crashes and he's been playing for like 5 hours and never saved and loses everything.

Wow. I'm not quite sure how they'll pull this off...

Very badly, I suspect. To be true to the game the film will need to break at least once while running and require three hours to fix. Stars, I hate game crashes. >:(

Ha. Or be only ten minutes long- I attempted to install University and then my computer froze, which kind of made me stop playing for a while.

...Well, all I can say is I have NO idea how this is gonna work at all, but I'll go see it anyway. It sure seems rather.... intersting.... I'd just like to see how this all goes down.

Yeah, movie to game liscences don't always have the best reputation, but game to movie liscences... well, they probably have a worse reputation.
