The Adventures of Tintin

If you've not yet seen this film, do yourself a favor and go see it. Whether you're a fan of Tintin or not, you will admire this film. It's quite funny and has some very thrilling moments, one of which was done in ONE SHOT!

The only thing I didn't like (and this is my logo self saying this) was that they wasted a great opportunity to create official logo music for Nickelodeon Movies, as all of the logos were silent. But again, that's just my logo self saying this.

Fantastic cast, great music, and very funny moments make this a great film to see.

The Muppets (2011)

Bar none, the best theatrically released Muppet movie since The Muppet Christmas Carol and sadly that was almost 20 years ago.

Everything in this film just clicked, the songs, the gags, the story, even the "Celebrity cameos" were fun (My favorite cameo was the one made by Foo Fighter's front man David Ghrol, I won't give away what he was doing in the film, but it was a great moment.)

I have to give Jason Segel, Nicholas Stoller and James Bobin credit, they certainly have a lot of love and admiration for the source material and it shows in almost every frame of the film. Glad to see the spirit of Jim Henson's imagination live again.

I bought the DVD some time ago but didn't get around to watching it until early this morning. Much like The Core, the "science" behind the plot is utterly preposterous, to the point where I have to wonder if anyone in the writer's guild has even heard of science, let alone taken a course in it. The characters were passably likable, albeit not by much, and there wasn't all that much of a plot beyond everybody trying to get to a safe area while the Earth falls apart around them. Mostly the movie was an excuse to show off a lot of explosive special effects, which it did very well; I imagine that it must have been beyond spectacular on the big screen, and they were pretty dang impressive on my computer monitor as well. Again, not much on plot or characters but it's full of fire and action, and a pretty enjoyable way to spend 2-1/2 hours. :bloogrin:

The latest from the creators of Ice Age and Robots. I was kind of unsure about this film at first, since it looked like it had a very simple story concerning talking animals wanting to go home... and plot wise, I was right. Everything else though was great. Great voice actors (including Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Jamie Foxx, will.i.am, Leslie Mann, George Lopez, Tracy Morgan and Jemaine Clement), awesome music (loved the use of Lionel Richie 8D) and wonderful visuals. So, if you can get past the story, it's a great film.

Sat down to Yellow Submarine last Saturday. It played nationally at selected theaters last Thursday in a special engagement and will be re-released on DVD and Blu-Ray on June 5.

The last movie I watched was Shawshank Redemption.

Battle: Los Angeles

Aliens invade Earth. The story focuses on a squadron of marines and their mission to rescue a group of civilians. Once it gets going, the action is gripping and virtually non-stop, and even during the lulls between firefights the tension never lets up. Loved it. :bloogrin:

Since I haven't posted here in I don't know HOW long, I thought I'd give my opinions on the last two movies I got to see:

Hotel Transylvania
Many people here will probably want to see this because of Genndy Tartakovsky, while some may want to see it because of Adam Sandler, but I'm happy to say that despite the casting of Adam Sandler and most of his co-stars from the movie Grown Ups, it's still a great film to see. There's some hilarious cartoony moments in this film, great humour, and I have to say that Mavis (despite being voiced by the girlfriend of JB :frankiemad:) is on my list of gorgeous animated female characters. I always like to think that just because Adam Sandler is in it doesn't ALWAYS mean that it's going to be a bad movie, and this is one of those films. It's great fun.

Anyone (except me) who's old enough to remember the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis should give this film a go. The film stars Ben Affleck (who also directed it) as Tony Mendez, a CIA specialist who finds out that 6 of the American members of the US Embassy have escaped and are hiding out the the Canadian Embassy. Tony soon comes up with quite possibly the most improbable plan in history: create a fake Canadian movie and pose the 6 Americans as members of the film crew on location scouting. There are some great one-liners and humour in this film (courtesy of John Goodman as a make-up artist and Alan Arkin as a washed-up producer), and the climax has great tension and suspense. It's definitely my pick for Best Picture at the Oscars, no doubt about that!
