That's about what I say. If it's someone I'm not very close with (an acquaintance, etc.), I leave it at accident; if it's a friend, I elaborate and say he was in an accident trying to save his creator. (And I DO mean elaborate.)

New contribution: A week or so ago, I was buying some tickets for the local musical Little Shop of Horrors, and I bought them from the girl playing Audrey. We were sitting in the hall talking and there was a brief pause, follwed by her announcement of, "I love cheese."

I was totally and utterly confused and assumed she was talking about the sandwich she was eating at the time, until I realized that she was talking about the Bloo and Cheese keychain on my bookbag. That led to a nice three minute discussion of the show. So I got my tickets to the musical AND I got a nice Foster's discussion in. That morning wasn't totally wasn't.
