I think people who do not know how to take a compliment upsets me. I find it rude and disrespectful when people do not acknowledge praise given to them. But I guess most people in this country are like that anyway. Or it has become that way. I was taught to acknowledge a compliment by by saying "thank you.":frankiemad:

the fact i dont own a wii nor do i have any way of getting money for a wii. or a tv to plug it into (living room tv alreadly has the ps2, and i cant figure out where to put it in here even if i did have it.)

blargh. sad thing- i just want a wii so i can play that new NiGHTS game.

The Wii in GENERAL ticks me off. It's just a glory hog. Whatever happened to the good ol' days where the GAMECUBE had games coming out for it? The games were small discs, the controllers were easy to handle, memory cards came in a variety, the games had plots, AND good quality of graphics, the gamecube had HANDLES, and the gamecube and its controllers came in a variety of colors. And for some reason, I must admit that the gamecube system was rather...cute, because it's one of the smallest console, compared to everything else. The gamecube lived for what it appeared, a console that was a CUBE.

But the Wii? Oh no. Just white colored. And long. And a wireless controller. Bad graphics. Big whoop.

:( I beg to differ. I like the Wii's graphics.

Despite not being as compact as the GameCube, the Wii has many finer points. People were afraid of the controlls being a gimmick, but they really come through in games that require aiming of any kind.

And the games do have a plot... look at Twilight Princess.

They also make Wiis in colors now.

Not saying you're wrong about the GameCube being amazing, but the Wii is not a total piece of junk like you make it out to be. I'd not trade mine for anything. No console is perfect, anyhow. I mean, they make bad games for EVERY console.

It's really not that. It's just that in these days people are wary of compliments. A lot of them seem to have a tinge of sarcasm, or are just altogether backhanded.

Partymember 09-24-2007 03:33 PM

Skwisgar!

BTW my lack of a "Metalocalypse" DVD in front of me is making me pretty mad...did they come out with one? They should.

BUT, however, I think the Wii was intended for young children. Though I could be wrong.

Because of the Wii, every other Nintendo console (except for the DS and the DS Lite) is being forgotten, the games no longer going on shelves. They are all thrown out (if not sold) and are replaced by the so-called awesome Wii's games.

I guess some of the games are not as bad as I thought they were, but I'm talking about the "Wii Tennis" and other stuff like that. THOSE have bad graphics.

NOW you tell me this. XD

You have your opinions, and I have mine. I think I also hate the Wii for how much it costs. My family could NEVER afford such a thing. Besides, we don't even TRY to buy those new things anymore anyway, because we won't use them as much as the older systems.

Our family policy for getting new systems is, simply, if the old ones don't work anymore. I don't think it's worth it to brake my gamecube just to ge tthe Wii, I don't think it's worth it to trash my also-loved GBA for the DS/DS Lite.

I'm not gonna bother the Wii. I'm just gonna love what I already possess. The Game Boys, (I have two) the Nintendo 64, the GBA, and the gamecube. I love you guys so much. I'll never let you go, even if at some point you might fail me.

I am a VP of operations for a financial firm, and we have to have social graces for corporate events, or dinners. These social graces were present when I was in the Navy for ten years and in the officer circles, it was polite to acknowledge compliments (e.g. "Thank you for your presence at my dinner Admiral, and Mrs. Smith).

The most important thing is, I was taught social graces as a child, and how to act internationally (we did live overseas for a time). My belief is courtesy is for everyone (regardless of rank, privledge, or station). Compliments out to be acknowledged with even a simple "thank you." It is easy to filter out the sarcasm.

AerostarMonk 09-24-2007 04:04 PM

I've just always felt that they were lying to me and being polite instead of actually meaning it. No offense. I see what you're saing. It just feels so false when someone pays me a compliment, I always feel that they're just lying, you know.

The whole "game replacement" thing happens with every new console though, not just the Wii. They stopped making new N64 games after the GCN came out, so in that case, the GCN looks like the bully. I don't think the Wii is necessarily malicious to any other console.

Agreed, Wii tennis DOES have crap graphics, but it was a game given on release, so you can't expect much. Plus, it was a game pretty much cranked out to give you something to try the motion-sensing capabilities on directly out of the box, so they really didn't bother with making it great. It did its job in letting us flail our arms around for the first time on a Wii.

Cost is another thing... it's brand spanking new. They have to make their money somehow, and as far as I'm concerned, it costs just right. They don't get the stuff to make it for free. I spent no more on my brand new Wii than I did on my GCN at the time when it came out.

All-in-all, I love my old systems/handhelds just as much if not more now that I have my Wii, and I happily welcome Wii to the family.

But like you said, to each her own ;)

@ Partymember: =D Skwisgaar is amazing!!! IDK about the DVD release... I don't want to get on Wikipedia and look because Wikpedia is... Wikipedia.

Back on topic lol...

I hate whenever people won't get the clue to leave my blasted house... One night a few weeks ago, this guy I know came over, and he WOULD NOT leave, even though I plainly told him that I was getting tired and I had work in the morning, and it was SIX in the morning!!! Finally I threw out being nice and bluntly said, "I'm going to bed. I'll see you later." and he FINALLY left.

Jeez.... what a pest.

The fact that Nintendo doesn't make the DS cards more sturdy. I found out today that my PKMN Diamond was corrupt, so now I can't play it. My New Super Mario Bros. was cooked to death in the car. And I don't know WHAT happened with my Sonic Rush. And on top of that, the touch screen is broken. Great job for p***ing one of your fanboys off, Nintendo.

I thank people borderline-obsessively for compliments, even when it's on things like my name, which I had no part in picking out, but, well, what are you supposed to say in that case?

Then are one of the few people that does understand. I am greatful to anyone who has positive feedback...

AerostarMonk 09-29-2007 01:19 PM

I'm just wondering, how can you tell when they're being sincere. I dunno maybe its an insecurity on my part, but like I said before I usually don't trust compliments. I guess it's hard to hard to explain. It always sounds like someone was forced to say them rather than actually meaning them. I'd much rather have an honest insult than a dishonest compliment. Maybe I'm too bitter and cynical. Sorry, I'm not trying to make a mess of things or something, just trying to share my view.

Cassini90125 09-29-2007 01:39 PM

You're not alone. Half the time when I get a compliment I feel like saying, "Thank you, what do you want?", and with good reason. I'm usually right, too. We have one jackass in this building who used to open the front door for me when I got back from wherever and act all friendly and happy to see me. A moment or two later would come the request to borrow a couple bucks. Not a chance, pal. The last time this happened I told him point-blank that I'm not loaning him or anyone else in the building any money under any circumstances, period, and he got all upset. "C'mon, man, I need to buy cigarettes!" he yelled. My response? "You want cigarettes? Then buy cigarettes! Stop wasting your money, and my time, on booze!" That was back in April. He hasn't opened the door for me since. I guess he's only friendly to people who give him stuff. The hell with him.

Partymember 09-29-2007 09:12 PM

hmm...i usually make a few bucks buying Camel Wides for my buddies

ahh...the perks of being 18 8-)

AerostarMonk 09-30-2007 02:18 PM

It's just no in my nature. I know how to be polite. I'm one of the last people I who still says excuse me at an expulsion of gas or "Bless you" when I sneeze. Something that I haven't seen from anyone else in a long time.

I actually do have a hard time telling the difference between insincere and sincere compliments. I honestly believe that few people have anything nice to say to me, so I instantly don't believe what they say. It just bothers me that they have to come up to my face and lie. It makes me livid in fact. I do not being lied too. Or made out to be a fool. I can't return the compliment without a twinge of malice. And it's my own doing. It wasn't the way I was brought up or raised it's how I grew up to see things. It's just my nature. And I wouldn't call it Imperialist American thought, met way too many internationals who act the same. But I'm sorry if I I've upset you in anyway. I do try my best to be polite in most situations. Just been complimented too many times as a joke or a way to shut me up that I don't trust any of them anymore and rather not put up a filter to weed out the good or bad. I actually am most sorry about this.

However, I do believe it's best we moved on. If you would like to continue this conversation we can do so in PM.

Something that really riles me up is when people give you dirty looks from afar. Even if they don't know you. It has to be one of the most uncomfortable thing I've ever experienced.

Then don't go to the Best Buy in my neighborhood. They act like I don't exist half the time, and when I do finally get someone's attention they're not especially friendly or helpful. Frankly it's starting to feel a little personal. >:(

Employment blockers. When it seems that every employee and middle manager in a restaurant, store or other business is trying to keep you from getting employed. I understand times are hard, and you need all the hours you can get, but this is just a new low for society.

Ugh. I get this all the time. Random people will give me a dirty looks, or whisper stuff about me to the person next to them, and occasionally, the finger.
It really ticks me off considering they've never actually had a conversation with me or anything. They don't know me at all! :frankiemad:

Ub3rD4n 10-02-2007 12:55 PM

What the-? WHY would people give you the finger, just randomly, for passing by? I hear a lot from foreigners about how New Zealand's really friendly, but pass it off as them just making a random compliment. But if people in other countries will flip you off just for BEING there, then maybe we ARE especially friendly. Which would be sad.:(

I've gotten that, too, and not always from a distance. It's upsetting, but it's something I've decided I have to live with. :bloosad:

If there's one thing I hate... the most out of anything... it's nostalgia bombs. I talk to people every day who think the old is better than the new. For example, everyone thought the old Ninja Turtles cartoon of the 80's was better than the more recent cartoon... know what's funny about this? The 80's Ninja Turtles was a glorified toy ad with bad writing, while the newer series actually had better writing than the old. Of course... nobody wanted to accept this in any way because apparently old is better than new. Much like the people that think NES games are better than games that come out today, which is a lie. While it's great to play old NES games every once in a while, they really aren't able to hold a candle to what is out there today. If you keep having nostalgia bombs... you'll just age faster in my opinion.
