Nah, then they'd have fired back. This way we could sit and giggle as they scratched their heads and wondered where all the sh- um, stuff in their yard was coming from.

Pity there was no pool to aim for.

No doubt. Although it is work noting that when my family needed to "recycle" stuff we found in the yard (dead birds, doggie deposits, captured rodents), the standard procedure was to get a shovel and fling it over the fence.
