Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, last night on FOX. To be honest, I LOVE the storyline and ideas presented, the score is wonderful, and the visuals are fantastic. It's the stiff performances that drag it down. And Ben Burtt, quite possibly the worst editor in cinema history.

Last time I went to the theatres was last month for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which I found to be very entertaining despite the negative reviews and backlash.

A FANTASTIC movie, much better then my expectations were orginally set. This movie has got to be one of the goriest flicks I've seen, it's very gag factor and is loaded with gruesome cringe scenes and nasty stuff like that.

Also, any of you who've seen the remake will appreciate this, "The Beginning" perfectly explains every myserty or question from the first movie. How R. Lee Ermey lost his front teeth, how the old guy got into a wheel chair, where Ermey's cop uniform came from.

I have to agree with Mr. Marshmallow on the first XMen movie ... it was a rush because I was finally seeing all the mutants I love so much come alive on the screen. After that, the thrill wasn't the same, I guess.

Voxxyn
10-10-2006, 11:45 AM
The first X-Men was a little slow at times, but it was necessary because it set up the great storytelling and character development in X2, which probably remains one of my favorite superhero flicks ever.

I haven't seen The Last Stand, but what I've seen isn't making me as excited about seeing it. The recent DVD commercials that scream "DA BIGGEST ACTION! DA BEST SPECIAL EFFECTS!" are just like those sleazy "hot chicks" that love to flaunt their "large assets" at the complete expense of any heart and sincerity--which I find simply disgusting. I haven't seen it yet so I hope that isn't the case for me when I actually see it, but I'm keeping my expectations in check.

Mr. Marshmallow
10-10-2006, 01:57 PM
Here's the thing about "The Last Stand" it's as good as it could have been considering the fact this is a NEW director. Brett Ratner (Rush Hour movies, Red Dragon) directed this movie after FOX fired Bryan Singer from the job.

FOX was upset Singer was taking interest in "Superman Returns" for Warner bros. because there rival companies and Ratner was taken in as a replacement. Now while Singer undoubtedly is a masterpiece maker when it comes to these films, Ratner did pretty good.

There's some amazing fight scenes and effects in here and they did an amazing job bringing Beast and Juggernaut to life. Shadowcat finally gets some air time, and I gotta say, this movie definitely will leave you speechless quite a few times.

But in truth, it does fail in comparison to "X2". There's not enough air time for all the characters in here like they did in "X2", and Ratner clearly isn't very up and up about comic books since he didn't use the mutants he had properly or cleverly.

But Vox, I highly recommend you see it and don't miss out on it. It's not the best, but for a guy who took his first shot at doing a finale flick for a big comic film franchise, I think he did a pretty good job.

Grudge 2, just got back from it about an hour ago.

I was worried and disappointed with how the movie was going at first, some acting looked cheap and the scares were totally ruined by the giveaway music that was thankfully abscent in the freaky first film.

But, as the middle came along it got much better, one scene just flat out FREAKED me out of my wits (the counselor woman) for those who've seen it. It was creepy and had some unique ways to bring about the scares.

Overall, I was happy to not be disappointed and I left the theater satisfied which is what is always the most important thing to me when it comes to movies.

WHAT CAN BE BETTER THAN TAP DANCING PENGUINS?!?!?

And, being a tap dancer, I must say that the dancing was SUPERB. The baby Mumble did WINGS. A lot of ADULTS can't do wings. I can hardly do them...

Great movie... And Nicole Kidman sung! Yay! Moulin Rouge fans will be happy.

Also, did you guys hear that Happy Feet actually beat out Casino Royale in the box office this weekend?

I was shocked!

I just got back from Casino Royale.

I'm not so sure if I agree with the insane amount of acclaim it's gotten(95% on RottenTomatoes :o ), but I thought it was a very good action flick. I liked that this one was more about the characters and story than CGI and gadgetry stuff, and that Daniel Craig's portrayal of Bond was far more human and vulnerable than he usually is.

In the movies, we've recently seen "Flushed Away", "The Departed", and really want to see the new "Charlotte's Web". Just haven't got there yet.

On DVD, I just watched "The DaVinci Code", which I thought was okay. Kinda long, but I really dig the whole Goddess thing. Also saw "Cars", which was marginal at best.

On Pay-Per-View, I've recently watched "Aeon Flux", which I thought was cool, and "Damien 2006", which was a dork-fest.

Actually, my friend from my Improv comedy team showed it to me, he's big in asian cinema movies like "Yojimbo" and stuff like that. We sort of "trade movies" each showing each other a movie we know the other would like and enjoy.

He showed me "Old boy" and I showed him "The Grudge", last time he showed me a movie called "Deep" and I showed him "Wes Craven's: They". I loved "Old boy", just felt kinda super depressed at the twisted ending, but other then that.

Only other asian cinema I have seen would be Godzilla movies (I HIHGLY recommend checking out "Final Wars"), and no doubt you've heard of this big asian movie "Battle Royale".

Saw "Happy Feet" recently and though it had great animation and cute dancing/singing penguins, some of the messages made me roll my eyes and go "Oh not again." Yeah Disney always ponys up the dough for their cash cows. "Treasure" was a kick ass movie and the sequel is gonna involve them going around the world more like to arctic continents, China, and stuff like that.

Far as I know everyone in the first one will be back to reprise their roles except for the villain of course.

Basically, Kurosawa was hired to direct the Japanese segments of the movie. His work was completely micromanaged by the studio, telling him how to direct and constantly undermining him. Since he was widely considered one of the greatest film directors EVER, he naturally took offense, at which point the studio began spreading rumors around Hollywood that he was "difficult" and "impossible to work with". When it got to the point that it was affecting his health, he quit the movie. Of course, that meant that the studio said it proved they were right, and since Kurosawa wasn't really in a position to defend himself, it seriously damaged his reputation, both here and in Japan, which made it much harder for him to get funding for his films. There were other factors too, of course, but he later said that this period was the worst of his life (he attempted suicide not too long afterwards). I have tremendous respect for Kurosawa-san (seeing "Ran" still takes my breath away), and so it's difficult to watch "Tora Tora Tora", although I will admit it is an excellent movie.

:( To be honest Radical, I hated what I saw of "Re-animated".

I wasn't really impressed, either, even though two former writers for Foster's had written this film. To me, a lot of it was the acting that made this a tough movie for me to watch, and the writing wasn't the best. Also, I would've loved to see more animation in the movie. If this is what we're going to get from CN in the future, I'm not looking forward to the future. Unfortunately, I read somewhere that this movie even did better than GWH. That doesn't mean that kids really loved it (though a lot did watch), however, it's a sign that we'll likely get more of these types of movies or shows in the future.

I sadly hope not. To me, this was worse then the crap they pump out on Sci-fi channels. The acting was pathetically lame, it was TOO childish even for kids sake, and it made utterly no sense. Not only that, but they WASTED a great opportunity to use this toon idea properly.

When I first heard about this, I thought they were gonna incorporate actual CN toons like Foster's, Puffy Ami Yumi, Titans, and etc into it. To me, that would have been a much better idea then producing shallow made up toon characters with again, acting that is downright atrocious.

Oh yeah, and it had aliens plus a really annoying "dance kid" who made me want to get my teeth drilled rather then watch him anymore :terrence:. Such a waste of money, CN could have made 50 Foster's movies with the money they wasted on that.

You can program a Tivo for manual recording; it's what I did to catch the Thanksgiving marathon for Sparky. Of course, they don't make it easy because they want you to subscribe to their program listing service, but it can be done.

Alternatively, you can get a DVD recorder--most of them have hard drives that you can record programs with, and my Panasonic is very easy to program by time and channel.

Right now I'm using a Pioneer DVD recorder. The internal hard drive records whatever channel I want, whenever I want it to, and will burn what it records to a blank DVD (after I edit out the commercials). I need something like that for digital channels, preferrably one that can record and burn HDTV channels, too. I want nothing to do with TiVo, cable boxes or subscription services; they never take into account programming that starts early or ends late and are, to me, completely worthless.

Talladega Nights: Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Not sure bout you Insane but I LOVED this movie! I thought it was funny as hell, everything in it was great and it was thankfully as good as it's hype.

Which is rare to find in a film these days.

Yeah, I enjoyed it...And it produced many quotable lines. "I'll come at you like a spider monkey!" xD I didn't much care for the gay scenes, though. :P
