I just wanted to take the time to tell everyone that the Wii's American release date is the 19th of this month. I'm doing this due to the fact that this is one of the most important things to happen ever. EVER.
I plan to buy one as soon as I've got the scratch. What about the rest of you?

I can't say yes or no as I have no idea what a "Wii" is.

I'll make a more detailed post later. For now, I'll just say that I'm hoping to own it by Christmas. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is at the top of my list. :)

I know and I can't wait until it comes out! I want to buy both the Wii and the PS3, but the problem is that the PS3 is SO DANG EXPENSIVE!! I mean, 500-600 dollars?! Who the heck has that kind of money?! :o I'll definitely be buying a Wii first for Zelda and SSBB AND because of the fact that it's so much cheaper than the PS3, but I still want to get both in time. ;) The Xbox 360 isn't even on my list because I am not really interested in any of the games for it.

there need to be some killer games coming, or I'll be sitting on the sidelines for another generation of consoles.
The haWiian needs more games that use the non-nunchuck controller.
SpiderStation needs a new controller and a new pricetag
XCircle needs to die
Sega needs to get back in the game

Hey, I'm WAY behind you guys.
I just want a PS2. I have a PS1, and they don't make anything for it anymore.
I play my Gameboy Advance SP all the time, though... And even that's a little dated!
-Marty :goo:
I want a PS3, but those things are so expensive.
I dislike the name "Wii". Nintendo should have stuck with "Revolution" (which was it's codename). Wii sounds like something little kids say when they drink too much.

^ Wii isn't a very good name. Revolution is awful generic, though (like most code names are, ex: Dolphin, Project Reality). Nintendo never should have stopped including their name in the console's title, but I guess they figured a "HyperNintendo" or somesuch wouldn't sell...

Last machine I bought was a Sega Saturn. Everytime I have gotten a new system it has gotten discontinued about a year or less later...

I won't deny that 'Wii' REALLY baffled me at first, but I like it now. It's meant to emphasize the "we" in gaming, as in, attracting both non-gamers and diehards.
With all due respect, people shouldn't be bashing the Wii until they've actually tried it, because those who actually have have given it almost unanimous praise. Nintendo is trying for something completely different, which I appreciate, because the novelty of "uber-awesome and realistic graphics" has long worn off on me.

I'm getting one for Christmas, even if I do have to wait for one month. The games that I'm getting are SSBB, Rayman 4, Billy and Mandy, Sonic Wildfire, and Super Mario Galaxy. I would have gotten a PS3 for SONIC the Hedgehog and KH3, but my mom is not spending FIVE HUNDRED NINETY NINE U.S. DOLLARS for just 2 games.
Oh, and...
Wii do not care about Hyper-Scan. XDDDDDDD

The Wii comes out on my birthday! It doesn't sound like I'll get it as a present, though, and I don't have the money to buy it myself. Ah well. I want a DS more anyway.

I'm dissapointed with the controller gimmick that Nintendo is pulling.
I wonder if there will ever be a decent video game controller again.

:(
All the early impressions so far, both by gamers and professional reviewers, have been overwhelmingly positive. It is not a gimmick.
Everybody has the right to an opinion--but as a lifelong Nintendo fan, I found that remark to be EXTREMELY ignorant and disrespectful.

I wasn't bashing Wii; I was just saying the name seemed kinda weird to me at first. :P

no offense was intended, so please don't take it that way.
Nintendo's new controller is new, it's different. Nintendo is going to market that differentiation. That is by definition a "gimmick". It's also not a gimmick I've been impressed with thus far.
If it doesn't make gaming more fun, then why was it made?
I'll resever my final judgement until I get to work with it more, but I'm getting increasingly frustrated by the continuing ineptitude of controller layout designers.

Well, personally I haven't played the Wii yet, so I will hold my judgment on the controller until I play the console as well, but I still see why so many people seem to dislike the controller. It's going to take a lot of getting used to for people because everyone is still used to the old controllers, including myself. :bloogrin But I think I'll be ok with it once I get used to it. It's different, that's for sure.

Perhaps so, Chaos. But I'd like have the option, at least, to play the majority of the games with a traditional controller.
If I wanted to wave my arms around like that, I'd get a job directing planes on the tarmac at the airport...
The Wii's traditional controller works with very few, if any, Wii games; or so I've been told. I believe it is to be used with older games that can be downloaded to the console. That's too bad, as it looked to be an excellent controller to me.
I can see where the Wii controller can make certain games more fun, but I'm not seeing how it will make most games more fun to play. And that, is my bone to pick with what otherwise looks like a dynamite system.

I bought the Wii whenever it came out (I have a cold from camping out at the store!) and while I WAS skeptical (even though I am a DIE-HARD Nintendo fan), I am thoroughly impressed. It actually makes games easier and more fun to play, like in Twilight Princess, instead of having to aim at non-z-targetable targets based on good judgement alone, you can manually aim at them so it's quicker and wastes less ammo. While I know that some may argue that the "having good judgement" thing is a part of the game, in my opinion wasting more ammo than you need to and spending time getting irritated and trying to pinpoint a target on a clunky aiming system pales in comparison to "point...point...done". Plus, I feel much more in control with the Wii aiming system since it moves with me instead of me having to aim a joystick in the right directions.
As far as I can tell, there may not be many games that require "waving your arms about", since in Twilight Princess all it takes is a flick of the wrist to do most attacks. The game that came with the launch of the Wii (Wii Sports) requires you to actually get up off the couch and move your arms a bit, but I think the main purpose of that game is to introduce you to the style of the controller, get you used to the sensitivity of it, and kind of "show off" its capabilities.
Another good (though relatively minor) thing about the Wii controller is that it is extremely comfortable. Since the right and left sides are separate, instead of having to keep your hands in a side-by-side position while playing on a standard controller, the hands can be crossed comfortably in the lap or however you like to lie. This may not seem to great at first, but when you play for several hours like a lot of people do, eventually you want to move your arms into a different position. With the Wii, you can.
From what I can tell, the Wii controller is a step in the right direction.
I might get one...next Christmas. O_o

Lol! You and me both! 8D I'm lucky to have the platforms I have; I can't afford to buy new systems. I remember, when the Gameboy Advance came out, I was actually on the waiting list for it. It was the first handheld system I ever had, and I bought it myself and everything, and I thought it was such a big deal. Other than that I get by with PC games pretty much.

I'm in no hurry to get a Wii, PS3, or any of these other gaming systems. I may get one of them someday, but I currently have other things to worry about.

I got one... and I didn't just "get one," I mean.. I went all the way. Camping outside the store, blowing over three hundred bucks in a day. Fun times, but I don't even know *why* I got it now. The only system I really like is my nintendo sixty-four, I've never even beat a game on any other system. Maybe the Wii will grow on me... :wiltshock:

Yay! That makes two of us. Campers unite :D
However, on the contrary, I realllllly loved it the day it came out. It doesn't have that many games on it right now, so maybe (hopefully) it will appeal to you later with new games ???
