I can remember hearing this poem on the radio in my grandfather's pickup, for the very first time, and it still brings a lump to my throat. Nobody can tell this tale quite like Johnny Cash, and the words are as true today as they were when he recorded it.

Yes Johnny Cash was and forever will be the MAN! I'm not even American but even I thought that piece was rather touching and very well done.

First class delivery from Johnny Cash there. Very stirring stuff there and full of much-needed perspective. As for the subject of the peice, It sure does get dragged around and treated very badly, at least it looks that way from where I'm sitting.

yeah...i apologize in advance for the 2008-2012 period. Will not be pretty.
BTW although its "cool" to hate America and although our elected officials are nearly all traitors to the Constitution, i think we get an undeservedly bad rap in the rest of the world. I mean...we did save Europe twice in 50 years from death at the hands of the Germans, we did form the backbone of NATO, and we did fund the rebuilding of Europe post-WW2...and other stuff i'm too tired to remember right now. Heck, even South Korean kids dislike us. WTF?

I'm a Canadian and I dislike all the anti American sentiment these days. American pride is something that I find very respectable. And America has Stephen Colbert!

American pride, in the balance, is good. Jingoism of course is not.

Here is a little twist:
Did we not leave a King George over 200 years ago - and for that reason?:wiltshock:
Now about our public officials of today - if they lived 200 years ago, they would have been tried and hung for TREASON!:frankiemad:
